Mary, My wife and I just returned from a short trip (4 day weekend) in Milan for our anniversary (#35) and got tickets to La Scala on their website to see Lucia de Lammermoor. There were no orchestra seats left. Not knowing much about the layout of the theater when we bought our tickets they were for seats in the boxes that had very limited views. So be careful when buying your tickets.

There is a seating plan here of La Scala. It's not easy to find through the La Scala Web site; I found it through Google Image.

I was in Box 9. I was told by an opera fan after I bought the tickets that the best views start at box 12.
