Well, the luggage is semi-packed; too many papers, too many books, too heavy.
The weather, courtesy of Intellicast, shows rain showers in Venice over at least the first four day of our stay.
In Modena I think there was snow a few days ago and now are expecting some flooding.
In Rome the cardinals better come to a decision before we get there.
We will need heavier jackets than we were planning to take. Some stuff has got to be taken out of suitcases. Particularly to make room for the organic Canadian maple syrup I will carry as presents.
At work, pressure to arrange whatever is to arrange and to presciently prepare for whatever may or may not happen over the coming three weeks. But I got my departure lounge tickets for the new Air Canada lounge at the Toronto Pearson airport. If no surprises, we also have good seats on the plane both ways.
Josette gives lessons on double-overtime, to cover for the period she will be away.
Frasier still looks lovingly to us and wags the tail, not knowing that in four days he will be chauffeured to his private heaven while we are gone. When he gets to his sitter he goes into fits of joy. When we return, new fits when he sees us. Love is fickle.
So, leaving on Sunday. Travel days excluded, six days in Venice, four in Modena, eight in Rome.
4th year in a row that we will celebrate our wedding anniversary while we travel.
Hope you both have a wonderful trip. I know what you mean about work - I have to leave long memos about what to do if this happens, what to do if it doesn't happen, what to do if it doesn't happen by a certain date, who to call, what to say to this person when they call, what not to say to that person if they call and so on and so on. It is such a big deal to get away and when you come back tons of work await you. But in the long run it is worth it to get away - everyone needs a break.

Now let me see, Nancy...
18 days (Air Canada haven't heard of panna cotta so the flight days don't count) x 2.5 meals (assuming on average half of the places will have panna cotta for breakfast???) x cca. 150 gr./panna cotta : 0.45365 kg/pound = ?
I LOVE panna cotta...besides gelato and granita, it is the only Italian dessert that I eat. My wife Diana now makes it for me when we are home and, of course, it is the hot dessert on American menus now.
I don't think I would try panna cotta on an airplane in any case.....
Doru, if you like panna cotta, you had better to go to La Zucca in Venice and try theirs. It is unbelievable. Especially with honey and nuts on it (I was lucky - that was on the menu last month when I was there - they always have one, but with different toppings...)
Have a great trip! This will be the first time in 8 years, we won't be spending our anniversary in Italy. On 23 April I will be working myself half to death cooking for the 20 people who will be attending our Seder that night. I intend to make up for it by celebrating our 44th anniversary belatedly and lengthily when we reach Venice on 26 April. Buon Viaggio! Ruth
Thank you all for the good words and the good wishes and the good advice.
Now the grandkids, who spent the day here, are gone home, Frasier is with Mavis, his beloved sitter, we go to the opera (Tancredi with Ewa Podles, for who cares), the laptop to work is shut down, so will this desktop be in a couple of minutes.
Will be incomunicado till we hit the Internet cafe near the hotel, in Venice.
