I'm looking for the name and address of a good antipasto bar in Rome. I'll be staying in Trastevere near The Church of Santa Maria, so the closer to that area the better. Thanks for your suggestions.

You could go there in evening on public trasprot fron trastevere. Take Tram 8 south to Via Induno (sp?). Transfer to Tram 3 whcih crosses the river at Ponte Sublicio and goes up to the back side of the Colosseum. You could walk fron there.

One more question. Are these antipasto bars "all you can eat" or fill up a plate one time? I don't want to make that mistake!

Every antipasto bar I have been to the cost was for all you get on one plate. If you return and get a second plate, there is a second charge . it's per plate. On occasion I have eaten 2 plates of antipasto at La Piazzetta.

I have only taken one helping, I am under the impression that it is extremely bad form to treat it as an all you can eat buffet.

Before I returned for a second plate at the antipasto bar, I alerted the waiter so he could add another 10 euro to my bill. He seemed happy to do so.

Here is another appreciated place for an aperitivo with a rich buffet. It's in Trastevere, close to Ponte Sisto, in Via del Politeama and is called "Freni e frizioni”

prices are very reasonable and there is a little place to sit in the back that they don't charge you to sit at after you buy pastries and cappuchino

They were very kind to us even though we did not have enough Italian to talk to the cashier to tell her what we had bought.

DragonPat,

I swear, a single happy tear dropped from each eye at the sight of those pastries. Sigh.

I just ate at a great restaurant with amazing Antipasto. It is called L'Osteria de Memmo, located near Piazza Navona. The antipasto is served at your table, not at a self serve bar. They offer so many dishes that they have small tables on wheels to hold all the plates. The price for the Antipasto is 14 euro per person. I wish I had taken my camera to capture our table full of food: mozzarella, ricotta, eggplant prepared 2 different styles, zucchini, prociutto, broccoli, mushrooms, arancini, shrimp, fennel, tuna & more - it was delicious!

L'Osteria de Memmo
Via dei Soldati 21-23

Looks like a good place, I put it on the list for October in Rome. I notice the name is L'Osteria de Memmo I Santori. Is the "I Santori" their name, (cognome)?

Pictures of the staff are "creative."

Exactly.
I have it on my list as well, but when around, we always move on to Via dell'Orso 33, where "L'Orso 80" is waiting. Antipasti misti for 15 Euro, similar style, very god as well.
