Our 11 year old daughter is an enormous reader, and as we continue our travels and begin living once again out of suitcases, we are all woefully running low on books.

I've read the posts about English bookstores in Rome, but I wondered if anyone has suggestions of where we might find used books for pre-teens in English. We can't spend a lot of money, so we thought cheaper used books might be best and we can then just discard the books as we move on.

Would appreciate any ideas!

In Rome check the S. Susanna church library (link from my site). they also have great book sales .
The int'l schools have thrift shops, May fairs where used kids books are a "dime a dozen" . When will you be in Italy? If you pass through Vetralla I'll be happy to lend you some from our collection of kids books.

Kathy, if you'd like me to bring a few with us, let me know. Becky and I both read and enjoyed Thief Lord which takes place in Venice. I can see what else Becky has that she's finished (probably a while slew of Judy Blume and she went trough a T-Witches phase).

There is a new/used bookshop in Campo Santa Maria Nova in Cannaregio (Venice.) I don't remember seeing any young adult books there, but that would be the best place to start.

Thanks to all who responded...

Mary Jane, we will start an 11 week trip through Italy TOMORROW, beginning on Lake Como. Then Venice, Rome, Amalfi Coast, Florence, Tuscany and Umbria. Although we're seasoned European travelers, this is our first time in Italy... I don't know where Vetralla is or if we will be nearby, but thank you for the offer.

Kim and Jan-- all the books/authors you mention are ones that Kelly enjoys. At this point, she is more than happy to read an old favorite a second time. Anything you have room to bring that another young person can part with will be greatly appreciated!

And Shannon, thanks for the bookstore suggestion in Venice. Maybe I will find something for myself as well!!

Thanks all... and see some of you soon!!

Kathy
