It doesn't get much better than La Posta Vecchia in Ladispoli. It is an easy 20-mile drive north of Fiumicino. There are many websites for this hotel but here is just one: http://circumvista.com/Posta.htmlA much less expensive place with a very good dining room is in Tuscania. It is the Al Gallo which can be read about here: http://tinyurl.com/2f4j4Tuscania is just inland from the coast 65 miles north of Fiumicino. It is a pleasant small town that is pleasant to walk around and explore some of the Etruscan sites. Peter

I agree with Peter 100% about Al Gallo. We had a wonderful lunch there, and friends who stayed there later at our recommendation thought the hotel and the town were charming. Here's the link to the hotel's own web site.

Al Gallo in Tuscania is a very good choice....about an hour and a half (or less) from Fiumicino. Nice hotel, wonderful town. For something slightly more romantic, consider the Villa Farinella, just outside of Viterbo. A fairly new bed and breakfast, it is elegant and affordable. Villa Farinella
