I'm planning a honeymoon trip for a young couple (early 30's)in Italy. They are flying into Fiumicino, spending time in Chianti area, then northern Tuscany and then flying home from Fiumicino. Does anyone have experience staying in a romantic (special) hotel/B & B not too far from Fiumicino for these honeymooners to spend their first night in Italy? They will pick up their rental car at the airport when they arrive but I didn't want them to do too much driving the first day. This is their first trip to Italy and I would like their first day/night to be memorable. They will then head off to the Chianti area for a week and then the area outside of Florence for another week, then spend their last days tooling around Rome before flying home. Thank you one and all!

It doesn't get much better than La Posta Vecchia in Ladispoli. It is an easy 20-mile drive north of Fiumicino.

Tuscania is just inland from the coast 65 miles north of Fiumicino. It is a pleasant small town that is pleasant to walk around and explore some of the Etruscan sites.

I agree with Peter 100% about Al Gallo. We had a wonderful lunch there, and friends who stayed there later at our recommendation thought the hotel and the town were charming. Here's the link to the hotel's own web site.

Al Gallo in Tuscania is a very good choice....about an hour and a half (or less) from Fiumicino. Nice hotel, wonderful town.

For something slightly more romantic, consider the Villa Farinella, just outside of Viterbo. A fairly new bed and breakfast, it is elegant and affordable.
