I have been searching today for an agriturismo or tourist apartment in a particular part of Sicily to rent for a month in the winter.
Have not seen one price list. They all want an email to which to send a proposal. It makes me suspicious that when my all-too-foreign name pops up I am going to be quoted a higher price than would be quoted to a hard-headed Italian. I could be way off base, but why do they do that?
What's the point of asking dozens of places in hopes that one will be in your budget range? Considcering how slow to answer most Italians are to emails, it could take months to get back what they could easily post on their pages.
Confused

I am with you on this one!! I think they should all post their prices. Some people I have asked about this said they don't want everyone in their town to know how much money they are making. But I always feel like the price changes depending who emails them.

Someone told me recently of a vacation rental in France where they have lower prices for Germans!! The Americans will pay more, but not the Germans. Perhaps Frau Greenwood might do it!!

If that's true, get their price and negotiate. If you don't like the price, tell them you want a price for "un locale non per un straneri" and see what happens.

You can always check villas on www.rentvillas.com. See:

... to figure out what a higher price would be, as they are often not inexpensive.

Marco! Who do you think I am? If I had a family of 6, maybe.... This is pensionata Judith, poor in other words.
I have a particular area in mind, need accommodation for one for a month. €2350 a week ain't it! So I searched for agriturismo because February is a slow month anywhere here.
The only place in your sites that I had seen before and had priced goes for €38 per day in Italian and 1000 a week on your offered site. See what I mean?

Yes, I see your point, but knowing that, find a place you like and negotiate with them. If one place does that (E1.000/week vs. E38/night), others might as well. There could also be some last minute offers or options.

Better to have some income than for a property to be empty, yes? Let them know you know this. Worst they can do is say no.

Perhaps sharing what part of Sicily you're interested in would help others help you better.
