Does anyone know of a website--or even a book--where you can look up the location of a favorite artist's paintings? I am mad for Caravaggio and I know there are a few in Florence but how and where to get a list? I missed one in Rome last year and am still kicking myself. I have searched the web but have not had success.

Olga's Gallery is the best online site I've found for an artist hunt.

Don't miss Caravaggio's "Medusa" at the Uffizi in Florence. Scary stuff!

The website www.caravaggio.com allows you to track from "Paintings" to their "location". Follow the links. The paintings located in Florence are listed; I checked.

Thanks for the links. I am a fan of Caravaggio too. The influence that he had was pretty far reaching.

Caravaggio is my husband's favorite painter. When I lived in the States and he (Italian) would come to visit, our trips were always planed around architecture and Caravaggio! I never even knew that we had a Caravaggio painting in the Museum of Art in Indianapolis (where I lived)!

My favorite Caravaggio hunt story is the time Danilo found out that there was a Caravaggio painting at the Cathedral in Toledo. We were already going to Toledo to see a Gehry building, so we found out where the Cathedral of Toledo was, got directions, and headed downtown to find Caravaggio. It wasn't hard to believe there was a painting there, after we had a found a small one Indy.

Well, we looked ALL over the church, asked staff and NO ONE had ever heard such a thing. When we got back to my house, we rechecked the website where Danilo had gotten his information and found out he had missed one important detail; the website was talking about the Cathedral of Toledo, Spain NOT Ohio! All these years later, we still get a good laugh at that one!
