Im no fashion plate, but I think Judith's comments on weather and finances are very apt. Another way to make this summer's trip more affordable, I realized, is to simply haul out last summer's clothes, or most of them. Perhaps the Italians are not alone in not doing a lot of shopping these days. I would rather eat and drink in Italy.
Well, from where we have been--not the great fashion centers but decent sized towns, black is all that I see. I guess the weather has a lot to do with it. The time for white linen is just not yet.
I'd say various wintry colors. It's still cold at a time when we often start really high temperatures. Continuous cloud cover is preventing the start of summer. The days of those photos were actually warmer days than the norm this year. The upshot is you don't need new clothes this year.
I'm not sure how accessible the programme is from outside the UK (although I've heard that you can solve the problem by going via a proxy server that disguises your international location), but the BBC is currently running a series called "Mary Queen of Shops" which is a reality programme about fashion retailing. It kind of looks at the issue from the opposite end of the question.
I tripped across this week's episode and was surprised at how interesting it was. Maybe because this particular ep was about how the fashion industry designs for about 1% of the population but that retailers need to know how to make it work for the other 99% of us who are not stick thin.
Here's the link to this week's show but it's only available for another 3 days. There will be another episode made available from Monday. The biggest tip I learned about was something called Tummy Tuck jeans. Definitely want to check those out.
