Also www.viamichelin.com is great for route planning between towns and I think it works for individual addresses as well.

I have tried at various times and with good success, Mappy, Maporama, MapQuest, Multimap, and the new Google one, but I still think ViaMichelin is the best.

viaMichelin, if for no other reason than you get to say hello to Bibendum. But really, viaMichelin's routing is superior. There was a thread on this in April, in which it was shown by yours truly that Google's itinerary/route lead someone straight through Arezzo, adding at least a half hour to the drive, whereas viaMichelin used the autostrada around the city. http://slowtalk.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/5761018721/m...981091041#5981091041

DO NOT, repeat do NOT use mapquest for Europe. They are totally clueless and worse than useless to try to use. We were better off with just the TCI maps. The ONLY thing Mapquest was good for was directions out of Termini.

I would NOT use Google for addresses in Italy. I just returned from Rome and found that Google often misses locations by quite a bit. Such mistakes would probably be ok in cities with rectangular blocks and straight, numbered streets like NYC. However, I wasted a lot of time looking for restaurants and missed my reservations in Rome which has many narrow and windy streets.
I would recommend Mappy.com which is excellent. I have not used maporama or viamichelin and thus cannot comment on these.

Another Kudo for mappy.com. Have used it for three trips to Italy. What I like most of all is that is shows the road signs on the directions which is very helpfull.
