We will be in Rome two nights at the end of our trip and will be staying near the Pantheon. What are your favorite restaurants in the area and what what should we make sure to order? One night we hope to have the famous Rome pizza that I have read about...suggestions? Thanks in advance.
I have two recommendations; I had dinner at both last month. Al San Eustacio (Piazza dei Caprettari, 63).I had fried artichokes, fettuchini with porcini mushrooms, grilled lamb with roasted potatos, and moscato w/ biscotti for dessert. Very, very good. Dinner for two was E105. Second recommendation,Da Armando al Pantheon (via Salita de'Crescenzi, 31). I had a fried artichoke, pasta carboara, veal saltimbocca, fresh peas and for dessert a poached pear with prunes.De Armando is a Slow Food recommendation.

I have always found the food at Sant Eustachio very good. I also like Armando al Pantheon and La Pigna. I don't think you can go wrong at any of these. Calling ahead is always a good practice.

I like Osteria del'Ingegno on Piazza di Pietra. They have seasonal cuisine and dress their Italian food up just a tiny bit. For example, they serve a traditional cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper) pasta with little bits of fried artichokes. Atmosphere is very pleasant; service is good. If it's a warm evening, it's also a nice place to sit outdoors and have a glass of wine before heading off to dinner - great view of the Temple of Divine Hadrian.
Pizza Pantheon on Via dei Pastini. Not "sit-down" of course, but say hello to Vittorio & Giorgina and admire all of the University of Notre Dame memorabilia on the walls. I especially love the pizza con funghi and the pizza bianca.
Just behind the Pantheon you will find some of the best gelato in Rome. The place is called Giolitti. It's been around forever. It's one of those places that I know how to get to, but never learned the adress (I went there all the time as a kid). As you are looking at the front entrance to the Pantheon, you will see a small street to your right. Go down that street and take a right. It's very close. I'm sure you can get the actual adress off the web. This used to be hailed as the best in the city, but many in Rome now claim that a newer place, Le Palme,is better, although I have yet to try it. Enjoy!!

While the restaurants that I listed above are quite good, my favorite is the seafood restaurant, Quinzi and Gabrieli (http://www.quinziegabrieli.it/eng). We always order grilled tiny squids, spaghetti with lobster sauce and then a whole simply grilled fish served with a dressing of only olive oil and lemon juice. Ask for Ligurian olive oil as it goes quite well with fish.
After dinner it is a very short walk to Giolitti at via Uffici del Vicario, 40 for a gelato. As you walk towards the Pantheon after eating your gelato stop at Café Taza D’Oro for an espresso.

Der Pallaro with its famous fixed menu and fabulous price (20 euro) is one of my favorites. La Sagristia (sp?) is just off the Piazza Rotunda and is a favorite with the baptist college students.
For a quick bite and a fun atmosphere Brek across the Largo Argentina. DO NOT eat downstairs, instead go upstairs to the cafeteria. Each of the rooms upstairs has a different theme - achieved with props from various theatrical productions.
I'd highly recommend Trattoria del Pantheon (Da Fortunato). It's on Via della Rotonda just beyond the Hotel del Sole. I've been going there since 1976 and keep returning on every visit to Rome.
Enoteca Corsi Via del Gesu 87-88 06/6790821 closed Sunday ,opens only for lunch
Ristorante Settimio Via delle Colonnelle 14 06/6789651 closed Sunday/Monday Our favorite. You won't get a table here after 8:30 at night without a reservation.
Ristorante La Sagrestia Via del Seminario 89 06/6797581 closed Wednesday.

Just a word of warning regarding de Baffetto Due located near campo fiori. In 2005 we went there a couple of times. EVERY time we were overcharged. The final trip I started keeping track of what we ordered by writing it on the paper table cloths. Then the waitress got snippy. EXCUSE me. Rip me off once - shame on you. Rip me off twice - shame on me.
