Will be visiting Rome from January 2-5. Are the Vatican Gardens worth seeing in the winter?

We toured the Vatican gardens last January - and really enjoyed it. There's lot of history and many fascinating stories associated with the gardens - you won't see many flowers but it's a side of the Vatican that not many see. I think in the winter the tours are more limited so be sure to reserve

Like most european gardens the Vatican gardens are not about large floral displays. You won't even see that in August and September - prime rose season in Rome. What you will see are large expanses of trees, hedges, shrubbery, follies, shrines, the heliport. We enjoyed the tour when we went. If you have mobility issues talk to the vatican personnel about getting a guide that is willing to make modifications in the path you take so that you can stay with the group. The english speaking guide wouldn't but the italian was more accomodating.

Thanks to both of you for the information. Waiting right now to see if we can get confirmed reservations.
