I have put up a new section of essays on the web site: A Mind's Eye in Italy - essays about living in Italy by Nancy, an American who lived in Florence and Sorrento for five years.
We are starting with an intro essay and an essay about the number 13 bus in Florence, but there are several more essays "on deck". I will be posting them in the next few weeks.
Nancy lived in Italy for five years, and moved back to the US last year. These essays are about her time living in Italy. Most of you know Nancy from the AOL boards, but she is on SlowTalk as well.
Thanks to Nancy for taking the time to write these essays and letting me publish them on SlowTrav. I know we are all going to enjoy reading them.
As a "walker" in Florence, I had no idea how much I was missing by not riding little bus #13! I could mentally follow along a few parts of the route that Nancy described, but some neighborhoods and sights were totally new to me.
Thanks for an enjoyable and enlightening article, Nancy!

Nancy, thanks for bringing back a fun memory. One year we hopped on the #13 just because we were tired of walking. Best ride we ever took. I think we need to do that again in May.

I forgot to mention that, depending on what kind of spring Florence is having, the fabulous Iris Garden display may be in bloom. The garden is located just to the right side of Piazzale Michelangelo on a sunny, sloping hillside.
Nancy, This year we will be our third Iris festival. There again in May and are planning our Florence time around the Irises. This year it runs from May 2nd - May 20th. Hours are 10AM to 12:30 and then from 3PM to dusk.
