I'm planning a trip to Tropea in Calabria, I've been to the south before (Taormina Sicily ) for a week. I was just wondering how the 2 areas compare.

I put a call in to my uncle Franco. He is from outside Naples and his mother has a house in that general area of Calabria that she spends summer in. I was wondering what the area was like in comparison to Taormina as well. I will let you know what he says.

Hello Maria,

well depending on the time of the year you will be studying in Tropea - this will make a big difference on the level of enjoyment. This whole area of Calabria - from Capo Vaticano, Tropea, Zambrone and Pizzo is very congested (yet there is excitement and energy all around you) during the summer months.

this is a photo of tropea taken July 2003.

more photos of tropea

either way, Taormina or Tropea... you cannot choose better places to study Italian in southern Italy.

cheers,

michele

"this is a photo of tropea taken July 2003."

Yikes! It reminds me of Fifth Avenue at Christmas time.

hello Kelly,

"yikes"

no need to be frightened, it's just an illusion. it's the angle of how the photo was taken. see these other photos of Tropea from a different angle that were taken on the same day approx around the same time and you'll see what i mean. There There

cheers,

michele

Michele,
Thanks for posting links to your photos - they're beautiful! Especially the beaches, but the towns, too.

When did you take the other photos? Doesn't seem so crowded on the beaches.
