Long time since I've been on the Slow Travel site but I'm planning to be in Italy again in October so I'm gearing up. When I was in Florence in 2005 I stayed (with my 6 daughters and daughters-in-law) at Le Stanze http://www.lestanzedisantacroce.com/viapinzochere6/ and we had the most wonderful time. Just half a block from the Santa Croce cathedral. Mariangela is the owner/cook and she is absolutely delightful. Her husband is a leather craftsman. She is only on the premises in the morning to make and serve breakfast (or at a prearranged time to meet guests) so we had the entire place to ourselves - there are only 4 bedrooms. Loved it.
