Ciao amici,
First off, you should know that I have done my homework and trolled online and in the ST archives for all the information I could gather.
Now it's down to the nitty-gritty.
Autoeurope quoted me $533 for the cheapest car they had...flintstone style, I think.
Then I went onto Nova and it was $311 for the same car.
Now I know there are differences in insurance but if I just take the quote to Autoeurope that Nova sends me will they lower their rate?
I mean is it that easy to get them to "match" their competition or?
I just need to get this as low as possible as I am paying for it by myself.
As an aside, Avis is right next door to me on the Via Sardegna and they have the same price as Autoeurope. as a matter of fact, they are listed on the Autoeurope website as a pickup and dropoff but the guy on the phone was trying to talk me out of using Avis...not sure why? Do u?
Thanks,Elizabeth

Are you staying in Rome? If so, are you sure you will need a car at all? if you want a car just for staying in Rome, consider that Rome has an excellent network of busses, subways and urban trains that can take you anywhere fester than a car. If you really need a car for some specific tasks (like buying and transporting heavy stuff), consider rentig it for a shorter period of time,a nd maybe renting from a local small company instead than over the web.

I know I would have no use for a car in Rome and I even dread driving in and out of here but the reason I need a car is for an October 3rd two week wherever-I-land kind of trip into Tuscany and Le Marche areas. I do have some ideas of where I want to go and what I want to see but I am just winging it most of the way. Therefore the cost of the car is really important.
Thoughts on the cheapest from anyone?

Just wanted you all to know that I read Jim Z's advice about finding a lower rental rate from another company and then asking Autoeurope to match it. This is what they did for me
Here is their
original price 664.10
Less Discount of 250.10 (nova's rate difference)
Now only paying 414.oo
Wow this really works!!
Can't thank Jim and you all enough!!

Hi,

I have been traveling to Italy for the last 3 years and have grown really tired of dealing with the car rental agencies that rip you off with excessive insurance etc.

A few years ago I found a place that rents used cars at very affordable prices. The agency is in the Sabina valley in a small town called Gavignano Sabino. We always take the train from Fumicino to Gavignano Sabino and then walk across the gravel parking lot to the agency.

The cars are reasonable. There are two models. One rents for 20 euros a day the other for 25 euros a day. This price includes insurance.

The only problem is that the family does not speak English. If you speak Italian you'll have no problem.

Here is the info just in care you are interested:
Centro Riparazioni Autoveicoli
di Tulli Marcello
Telephone number 0765515744

Good luck. If you have any other questions let me know.

Ciao
