A new, virtual reality museum restores to life the sights, sounds and smells of the Ancient Roman city of Herculaneum, nearly 2,000 years after its destruction by Mt Vesuvius.

Read the story here.

This sounds interesting...thanks for the link! We've been to something similiar in York England and it was much easier for me to imagine life as it was back then.

If they spent 10 million euros fixing up the buildings, especially fixing up the theater in Herculaneum that is still underground and hasn't been able to be visited by tourists for decades, that would be a better investment for tourists. One can visit a virtual simulation online and save oneself the expense of airfare of having to go to italy and the bad dollar/euro exchange. if I am going to a site, I want to see REAL artifacts, frescoes, statues or at least "real" simulations of them in the places where they were actually found. Like the simulation of Alexander's mosaic in the house of the Faun in Pompeii.

They know where Herculaneum's Forum is and because of the modern buildings over it, can't excavate it. They could have spent the 10 million euros buying up propety rights and excavating.

Last time I was in Herculaneum, i was disappointed that I could not visit the Surburban baths that I had read about. Mayb they could have fixed that up for 10 million euros so that tourists might be allowed inside.

I suppose that someone else that doesn't know about all the stuff that I have mentioned might think that it was a good idea and visit.
