I have tickets for the "Excavations Tour" under St Peter's Basilica. If you have been on the tour can you please let me have your insight? It is the only tour I have booked so far (going in September for 3 days). Would you also go on the full Vatican Tour to see the Sistine Chapel, etc. What other sights/tours/etc are "don't miss!"

From one Elly to another Ellie, you can find plenty of discussions about this tour under 'Scavi.'

Go to the find button and type in the word and presto.

From personal experience, it was great and you came up directly into
St Peters when finished.

The Vatican is a separate tour.

I think the Villa Borghese is a "don't miss" for the sculpture.
The Pantheon is another "don't miss" as are the Forum and the museums on the Capitoline Hill.

The Ara Pacis Augustae (13 BC ) has reopened (in 2006) after a 14 year renovation and new building around it.

There is so much to see in Rome that you have to really plan your time and the places you want to see.

Ellie,

I went on this tour a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. Very interesting. When I went this past November they offer tours outside of St. Peter's, it covers St. Peter's and the Sistine Chapel. It was reasonable, if I remember correctly it was around $35.00 USD.
