Well, I've just come back from 10 days at my Mum. I must admitt that the weather wasn't as hot and sunny as I was hoping for but I loved every minute of it.
The cold weather meant that we did enjoy the heat of
the old aga in the kitchen and could taste the succulent roast that my Nan prepared on it, letting it simmer in its own juice slowly for hours, with the scent of the rosmary and the other herbs that she put it pervasing the house. Yummy! ... especially accompanied by a good bottle of Barbera
We managed to do one of the million things that I had planned... it is like this every holiday: I go with all the intentions of taking my family around Piedmont and end up spending time in the kitchen chatting with my Mum and my Nan while Glen and the boys play football in the streets of the village with the Italian kids - rain or sunshine!
We did go to Venaria Reale, though, on the only gorgeous day that we had and just before going back home we managed an hour's bike tour in the adjacent park "La Mandria". If I'd known it before I would have probably spent the whole day at "La Mandria" visiting the Royal Apartments there because for the children the hunting palace (Venaria Reale) was a bit empty (lots of tapestries and paintings but no furniture!). Still, it's worth visiting and it is certainly impressive!
I will try to write a review on my blog, but if anybody wishes to know specific info, please do not hesitate to ask me.
