I am including trattorie that were mentioned as being favorites on the thread that I started on this topic. The ones I am including were either mentioned twice or fit the concept of a "trattoria" (some are more traditional than others but all are in the "not too fancy" category.)
You didn't mention Sabatino, which is just outside Porta San Frediano, at the beginning of Via Pisana. Used to go there often when I lived in that area. Quite homey.

Yeah, I like that one. Thanks for the reminder. I was pretty much intending to collect the opinions of others, when I was collecting "nominations" for the trattorie. Thus, the ones on this poll came out of what people on this board "nominated"

Thanks for that info. I have never been to Pandemonio. The person (or maybe it was plural people, I don't recall) who recommended it, I thought were recommending it as a trattoria style place. I realize that some of the places are going to cost more than others, but I was trying to get a list generated of places that fell into the trattoria category, ie: not too fancy, even if they weren't all total "down home basic" places.

Pandemonio is a bit of a dichotomy. Technically, if you go by the full name, it's a trattoria. But the prices are considerably higher than your average trattoria. The quality of the food (that we had, at least) was exceptional and super fresh, which could partially explain the high prices. However, we found the overall vibe and feel of the place to be incredibly warm, relaxed, and welcoming (not formal, stuffy, fussy, etc... at all), much like how a trattoria should feel. It certainly wasn't "hip" or trendy, either. So, Pandemonio is kind of a difficult one to pin down, IMHO.
I still say my favorite trattoria (so far) is Pallottino. I'm not sure if people don't like it, or simply haven't been there, but I've had some of the most amazing pasta at Pallottino, not to mention the best risotto that's ever crossed my palette.
How about by this criteria? which one would you most like to see in your neighborhood? If mossacce was in my hood I'd be there 3 times a week for life! In fact there are several locals I recall from my visits there who come by and just get served, I asked and yes they come for lunch every day!
The other thing I like, my first visit and 2nd were 11 years apart and it was as good as I remember it, I love places that can maintain a standard. RR
I agree with Jeff about the excelletn quality of Pandemonio and the warmth and service. The mother is the chief cook and the family is proud of her. When we were there, it was late lunch and not many others were there. The owner came over with a lovely bottle of wine, sat down with us and shared it. There is the inside restaurant as well as a covered patio are in the back. Yum--just thinking about it.

You know, I like this guideline. My favorite restaurant, in the next town, is great but I couldn't eat there three times a week. So yeah, what type of place would I like up the street, that I could eat in a few times a week...that sounds like good criteria.
I liked Pandemonia but couldn't afford to eat three three times a week.
