Hello All, I might be going to Rome for about three months and am wondering if anyone can recomend CHEAP Italian classes. The ones I've found are from 300-500EU per month. Is that standard or can I away with paying less? Grazie! Stacey

Standard hours are 30 per week; 120 hours per month; at $400, that would be 3.33 euros per hour, very cheap! Did you check the hours per week and students per class?

Try contacting the Italian Cultural Institute in Washington D.C. Above is the link to the website. If it is like the one in Los Angeles, there will be lots of brochures about language study in Rome for you to constrast and compare. The IIS is a governmental institution of Italy and has no particular ax to grind with regard to a particular school.

That sounds about right to me. My daughter went to language school for a month in Florence and three months in Spain and loved it! Do a search for language schools in Rome and you should find lots of options with a fairly wide range of prices.

If you already speak a little Italian, by far the most inexpensive lessons are free by doing a language exchange with Italians wanting to practice their English. I did this when I first arrived. There are always ads up in the English language bookshops.
You could supplement this with private lessons a few hours a week and study on your own.
Otherwise, check with schools that offer non-intensive courses that meet just a few hours a week. They will cost you less and you can try to supplement your lessons by just living here.
