Wanted to thank all of you for helping make our Italy trip FANTASTIC! We returned late last night, so this will be brief; I will do a detailed trip report in a few days. Italy was GREAT! In our experience, there were not nearly as many American tourists as in previous trips to Italy. People with more direct experience can comment perhaps more accurately, but that was our experience. Our flights home (on United and American) were only half full. We found the exchange rate only prohibitive on a few things (gasoline, shipping wine, olive oil home, major purchases) but as we are not big shoppers, this was not such a big deal for us. It certainly was a memorable trip! Our children did WONDERFULLY and we see many more trips to come!
