Hi, first I just want to mention how much help this board and the website have been in planning our trip this May.Lots of great tips and ideas.
we only have three days to spend in Venice and are on a limited budget. We are looking at a place called Locanda Ca'del Console located in the Castello north of Santa Maria di Formosa church on rio di San Maria and on Calle Trevisan.I wonder if anyone has stayed there or knows what the area is like and how a walk it would be from some of the main sights. Thanks,Brent

I have never stayed in the area but it is close in to most areas you might want to visit. It is a little distant to Dosodruo but only by Venice standards. It might take 20 to 30 minutes to walk depending on how direct a route you are able to follow.

That is a great area to stay. Lots of shops and bars and restaurants, and the Campo is very lively. You'll be about 10 minutes (if that) from Piazza San Marco and the Rialto. Like Dean says you are pretty far from Dorsoduro but it is very central for everything else.

I lived very near there and it took me 25 minutes (walking fast) to get to Campo Santa Margherita in Dorsoduro. That is how close a "distant neighborhood" is, in Venice!

I second Shannon's opinion. It's a wonderful area. The apartment I am renting for the Carnival is not too far from the Locanda. Love the neighborhood. If you have a good sense of orientation it won't be difficult for you to find the short route Smile This is a great finding! The rooms look very attractive and the rates are unbelievable! I have added this Locanda to my list of possible accomodations. Thumbs Up
