Hello,

I'm getting ready to book a car rental through Auto Europe taking the "Free upgrade one car class" offered from the Europcar locations. If I booked a 2-door economy, does the upgrade risk being just to a 4-door economy, or would it be to a compact?

I called AutoEurope to ask about the upgrade, and they told me it would be another model car in the next class but was dependent on what was available at the time of rental.

Best thing to do would be to call AutoEurope and ask them (800-223-5555).

We have booked three cars though Auto Europe for a family gathering in Italy in June.
The upgrade offer does not apply to the two wagons we booked, but the price we ended up with was the best we could get anywhere in that Auto Europe gave us a price, I checked around and Auto Europe matched the best price.
The one economy car did carry the one class upgrade which took it from a Fiat Punto (or similar) two door - to a four door model. This actually just brought the price in line with other quotes for the four door model.
It is difficult to pin Auto Europe down to a particular model because they are just brokers.
Overall Auto Europe is giving us similar or better prices than other car rental companies, but what really tips the scale is the zero deductable.

Every guaranteed upgrade I've done with Auto Europe has been a car class, from economy to compact, compact to mid-size, i.e.

Just in case you are looking for a Intermediate or larger van it is not part of their deal, although they were willing to give me 10% off because she said she was new. The total for an intermediate van with ful prepayment and 10% off was $1563.32. So far the best one yet.

We have rented a wagon - wanted a Passat but are offered a Ford Mondeo wagon (?) 'or similar' so who knows what it will actually be!

For a mid size wagon we are quoted CDN 1217 - with the 10% off. I did make a couple of calls per the advice of Dean on this board, so ended with a better rate than the original quote. I was also told that the upgrade does not apply to wagons.

I thought the quote was prepay by March 31 - but in checking to give you the details I see it is partial payment required balance on delivery. This is Hertz through Auto Europe.

By the way - I tried to reply to your message but I am having a problem logging in. I'll try again later.

QUOTE]

It is Europcar through Auto Europe that is having the free category upgrade, and that has to be paid by 31 March; does not apply to automatic transmission vehicle or larger vehicles such as vans. With Hertz, no current free upgrade promotion, and Hertz always does its payment as a deposit in advance and final payment on site. All depends on who the rental company is as to how you pay for the car when using Auto Europe.

Thanks Sally for the clarification.

Since there is no upgrade on the wagon with Europcar I think Auto Europe has given us the most favourable situation for a manual wagon by booking it through Hertz.

I would prefer to pay in advance in Canadian dollars per the quote rather than paying on site in Euro. Ah, another phone call!

Thanks, all. For future reference, I asked for a quote for a 2-door economy, and they said the guaranteed upgrade was to a 4-door economy. I'm planning to book the 4-door and get upgraded to a compact.
