FIVE --- Valerie posted at the same time, so it is FOURBut don't think beating the previous record holder (I mean beating the thread not beating the person who set it - and Karin, why are you not posting?) means that this one stops. We are going for the longest thread ever here. Oatmeal - I am going to make oatmeal for breakfast!! We even have ripe bananas. Pauline from Slow Travelers

Congratulations, Pauline, and to all of us who are clearly now best friends! Now you can go and have your oatmeal. I prefer mine with buttermilk, but I have no morning sweet tooth. Probably my heritage. ( ok,so pancakes with maple syrup are an exception.)

We are making ravioli today. It is a December tradition in Mark's family. Mark's dad is in the hospital so Mark is in charge. He is making the dough and filling in my dinky kitchen (you should see it - pretty thrashed.) Then we will take everything over to the parental unit's house and everyone will help to make the raviolis - 1200 of them! It is raining and I am roasting a squash because I want to try to make some of the raviolis with squash and crunched up amaretti cookies. Have been summoned - need to add water to the dough! Jonathan: No, the TV version of "Dance" never made it to America, much to the annoyance of us Americans on the Anthony Powell message board. Sounds like brilliant casting, but I don't know how they could ever condense the million words, 300 major characters, etc., into, what, six hours? I reread all 12 volumes every two or three years, and always find more each time to amuse and edify me. There is an Anthony Powell Society and website based in London, which runs the yahoo-based message board. "Dance" is a work of art that provokes a certain amount of fanaticism amongst its devotees, of which I am, proudly, one. But how about Simon Raven's "Arms for Oblivion?" Yrs, Robert

Jody - you should have heard him when he was kneading the dough. It sounded like he was running a marathon or something. I think I need a new kitchen floor. So, I have this ditzy party girl for a next door neighbor (we call her elephante.) One of her friends clomped up the walk at 4AM and banged on her door and windows for a half hour. I was just about to get up and ask, "has it ever occured to you that she maybe isn't home" when elephante did come home. So, I am cranking Joe Strummer with the bass turned up. Sweet revenge. Finally joining in! Not doing much today. Today will probably be spent on the internet and watching some good old american TV in English! Got to chat online with Danijela. Might give her a call today. She is Croatia for the month. Might meet up with my mom to go to Chriskindlemart. It is a xmass market in Bethlehem, PA. Very large with a lot of interesting xmass oriented items from around the world. Not to mention some good food as well. But, I am not so sure I will be able to fully enjoy the food. I had my four wisdom teeth removed on Tuesday and I am still only eating very soft food. Everybody keeps suggesting over the past few days to have pasta. Hell No! I love pasta, but I need a break no pasta for me this month at all! I have enough in Rome. This vacation is about philly cheese steaks, tacos, hot wings, cheesburgers, potato skins, etc., etc. Last night was great. Friends of mine had a xmass party and the theme was mexican! Margaritas, Corona, quesadias, mexican pizza. We had a homemade ornament exchange (the ornament had to follow the theme). And played charades. Good times had by all! I know what you mean But, unfortunately, I couldn't pig out the way I wanted. You had to see me complaining with the manager about the "light" filling of the quesadillas. Few little pieces of what looked like to be chicken, 4 little pieces of lettuces, something that tasted like cheese, and all this for $6.50. The pictures looked so 'yummy' that I couldn't resist. Should I thank the manager instead of complaining? I think so Oh, if it is of some consolation, there was a drop of what seemed to be sour cream, which I skipped, of course. No harm done, I guess "Canto alla vita alla sua bellezza ad ogni sua ferita ogni sua carezza..." "I sing to life, to its beauty, to each of its wounds and each of its caresses..."
