Happy Birthday Chris!

Do you want to hear my SQL story? When I was looking for a job in Colorado in 1997 after living in Rome for 6 years, on a job interview the guy asked me if I knew Sequel. I replied that I did not. He frowned and said, "on your next interview you should avoid mentioning that." (I had Sybase and Oracle stuff all over my resume)

I left thinking OMG what is this Sequel stuff. When I got back to Rome I searched for it on the web but couldn't find any software named Sequel.

Some time later I was at a presentation in Milan (in English) by Microsoft. The slide said SQL but he pronounced it Sequel. A-ha!

Have a great trip Maureen and see you in Rome.

Went to the pastry shop ealier to buy cookies. Same thing happened yesterday.

You have to have a sense of humor with all of this snow. Went out yesterday morning and shoveled the walk from my front door to the street and then with the help of a neighbor(with his snow blower which he received as an early Christmas gift...gotta love that!) cleaned the driveway and around my car. Went back in the house, warmed up, had coffee and proceeded to wait for the town plow to make an appearance. Around 3:00 with no plow in sight, I went back out and cleaned up some additional snow in the driveway. Just then down comes the plow, not one, but 3 along with a backhoe, in tandem. At this point a picture would be worth a thousand words as it would show me standing beside my care with shovel in hand, completely barricaded by all the show that had just been pushed into my driveway. Not only did I then have to shovel my way out again, but I had to shovel my way back into the front entrance of my home.

Frosting on the cake - my car wouldn't start this morning! You have to love New England! Actually I do.

Chris: Happy Birthday! Martini

Maureen: Hope you are already having a great trip!

Question: Do we need a graemlin for a glass of wine? Seems odd to have a martini or some such and not a glass of wine on a website with so many Italophiles. Wink

Okay, it is 2:30 and I have not started work yet. I blame Barb for asking for her profile photo - it got me into my photos folder. I also blame time itself which speeds by much to fast for the likes of me.

Steph said she likes looking at photos of herself. Here is a great series taken when me and Steve and Steph and Cesare spent a weekend together in Levanto. This was the first time we had met, other than online. One day we did a driving tour of some of the interesting small towns inland.

We are in a tiny village that we spotted from the road and wanted to see. There was no one there, except this guy from Genoa who was renovating a house.

Perhaps we should have asked that guy to take our photo. He was an Italian version of Inspector Frost from that British mystery series (at least that is what he looked like).

Doesn't Cesare look like he has a big poofy stomach in the one of he and Steve and I? Maybe it was the wind.

I don't jpeg compress well Frown

When I was a bratty teenager I played bass guitar in a garage band. The drummer was an African American. When we would make flyers to put up about "gigs" he would always complain that he didn't photocopy well.

I can verify that Cesare is slim (as are Steve and Steph) but the design of that shirt make it look like he has a belly. I thought he was shorter - we are all about the same height!

Well, Friday night was the last time I check this thread and we were only in the middle of page 3, now we are at the end of page 6, Yippee.
Trying to catch up on all the posts has taken me quite a bit of time. Everybody was so busy this weekend.

I too must have gained several pounds with everybodies cookie talk.

Amy, that is quite an image of your back yard! How about going outside and scooping up a bit of that snow and add some Torani, whichever flavor you prefer and making a snowcone? Cool Cool

We had a fairly busy weekend. The ice rink I coach in had their annual 'Finale' competition this weekend. So we went up to San Jose, where I teach, and I had two students entered. Saturday Jessica, my 5 year old student, was in a group number, 'Lion King' she was a leopard. too cute. She had on leopard tights, skating dress in leopard print and ears.
Then she did her own program later in the day. She skates to 'Jeepers' Creepers', where did you get those eyes'. I have a lady in NY on the island who makes all my students costumes, (not the leopard one, that was bought back near Halloween). Her costume was a bright lime green as close to Chartruese as we could get. She skated perfectly. Even at 5 I can tell she HAS IT!!!!! Her program consists of bunny hops, two jumps, one two foot spin, spiral, shoot the duck, (qwak!) foot work and a lung. She was a bit early after her spiral and she had to hold her shot the duck for a really long time until the words in the song told her'to get up'. But she did it. She came in second out of a group of 5. The winner had a big prop of a lemonade stand. I am sure it was the pop that won her the 1st place medal. Wink Jessica is definately going to be a technical skater. She has terrrific practice skills and asks her Mom to take her to the rink everyday. She does manage to go 5-6 times a week for 1- 1 1/2 hours each day. This is something she wants. Watch out everybody! I think she will probably have to go to my coach in Colorado Springs and see what he thinks.
I trained at the Broadmoor for three years in the late 70's.

Anyway Rob and I stayed over night in an older hotel in San Jose, The DeAnza. We went to dinner at 'Margionne's' in Santana Row. SJ has reinvented downtown. The restaurant was loud and lively, red and white check table cloths and an okay farfalle Carbonara, but a terrific Veal Chop. Rob had his Contadina style with sausage, red and green peppers... Very taste. I liked mine better, nice and simple in a light au jour. There had been a trio playing when we got there but had packed up by the time we left so off to our hotel for the end of the brazilian bands set. The 'Hedley Room' in the hotel is lovely and reminds me of an old villa in Italy with frescoed walls and painted beam ceilings.

Sunday we woke at 8:32 when sirens were going off outside...The police and fire dept. were clearing the streets for the annual Holiday Parade. So we watched that out our window and on TV. Evidently this is one of the top 25 holiday parades in the US. It was pretty entertaining, I just wish they hadn't needed to blast all those sirens first.

Off to the rink to Judge for an hour and then my other student was competing. I actually didn't have anything to do with this program. Since we leave for a month in Oct./Nov, Emily takes lessons also from the skating school director and she put the program together. A rock and roll # i don't even know the name of the music, nor did I recognize it. She skated well, though she was extremely nervous. It is amazing at the differencesa between my twostudents. Jessica loves to compete and you can see it in her eyes, she is so determined and Emily is so fragile when it comes to competions. Emily by the way is going to be 11 two days after Christmas.

Well, witht he comp. over we returned home and proceded to open up a bottle of french white and later moved to a bottle of Amarone 1998 (Copnte di Bregonzo). With this we had a bowl of penne with my homemade sauce. Rob's Dad's receipt, but I make mine with only fresh erbs and several style toms. It was a delicious batch, I think the hot Italian sausage and pork chops had something to do with it. Our market had just made the sausage 15 minutes before I bought themj. YUM Happy

Oh boy, I just looked at the clock!! Eek I have to go teach another Pilates class. So until I get back home and get Rob off the computer have a great afternoon all.

I am having so much fun. I know we did more this past weekend. It did rain Sat, and Sun. morning but had stopped somewhere around noon. This morning was a very chilly 47 when I got up. I actually blew steamy stuff out when I breathed on my way to the Hot tub this morning, and now that the sun is about to go down it is already turning cold.

CinCin for now

Yesterday after we made those ravioli all I could do was lay on the couch all afternoon. What work! I cook all the time but rolling dough and cutting pasta all day - completely different. Now I know why alot of Italian mamas have Popeye forearms.

I went for a physical a couple of weeks ago and just got my results in the mail (later there will be an actual appointment.) OK - I was a little scared because I have not had a physical in 8 years, when I turned 30. I don't eat enough salad, don't exercise like I should, and drink tons of wine and have done this for the past 20 years. Well! Wine is definitely good for you. They have calculated my health to be like someone 7 years younger than me! I have a "distinctly better than normal" capacity to blow air out of my lungs (screaming at rock concerts?) And everything else was normal or better than normal. Even my cholesterol where the bad is a little too bad but somehow the good is good enough to counteract the bad.

Whew! It feels good to know I am not at risk of Diabetes just yet. Rather than lighting up a smoke (kidding) I'll try to eat better and exercise more.

Only two more weeks till See's candy.

Buongiorno tutti! This morning everyone is walking into the office with the first thing being said "My god did you SEE Etna this morning?! How beautiful!!" The entire mountain is completely covered in snow ... to three-quarters of the way down. It is an awesome sight to see the volcano with that much snow, with a small plume of white smoke wafting from the top making a line across the clear sky ... absolutely breathtaking!

But that means it's really really cold too..... I think I need a heater in my apartment -- it was so cold I could see my breath! I think it was warmer outside than in. Yeah yeah I know ... what a concept -- it's winter so maybe I should use a heater Razz
