Just finished catching up on this thread. Goodness gracious, a lot has been happening. My condolences to those who have gone through or are going through tough times: Steph's brush with a burglar, Pauline's sore back, Deborah's loss of a pet. Kind thoughts to all who are experiencing challenges.
MariaV, I think you need the biggest shot in the arm of all. Congratulations for quitting smoking. Hang in there!!!
You can do it. As your own quotation says, "When you know even for a moment that it's your time, then you can walk with the power of a thousand generations."
I too have a robbery story. Many years ago, my house was robbed in the daytime. I came home from work to find my bedroom tossed. Everything from my dresser was on the bed - underwear, sweaters, jewelry boxes, etc. I called the police and was amazed at how kind and helpful they were. Even offered to stop by during the night to make sure I was OK and let the next shift know to checkup on me as well.
As I started to clean up after the police left, I realized why they were so interested in checking back with me. My condom collection - which, by the way, is a quite large one full of condoms in all colors, sizes, textures, etc. - was out on the bed with everything else.

We heard a cat fight today and went to investigate and Steve saw Spike and another cat that looked just like him howling at each other. The other cat took off, and Spike ran after him. A couple of hours later Spike turned up limping and exhausted - now he is sleeping. He is getting too old for this - he turns 13 next year. All he wanted to do was curl up beside his brother - who he usually ignores.
I am still limping too - but Motrin is helping and muscle relaxer cream. Steve set up my notebook computer so I can lie on the couch and still access the network and even work on my main computer. But the Motrin is making me sleepy.
So far today I have done everything at 1/5th the normal speed.
Thanks everyone! Spent a good part of today cleaning up and packing away Dusty things. He had a memory foam bed in every room of the house and two in some places. House seems pretty empty not walking around a dog that took up 5 feet of floor space when he stretched out. We will probably be fine until they call to tell us his ashes are ready to pick up. Pauline, my cure-all for lower back pain is Aleve, hot wet towels, and a good glass of red wine. Maria...THREE CHEERS for you!

And here I thought you worked with military personnel, and now I found out you must be working with 10 yr olds instead!

Now I feel bad...espcially since I look so stupid in that photo! It really wasn't worth it, Pauline! If I put a picture on the bolg, can you access it from thee, or will I have to email it seperately? I am hoping to take a new picture tomorrow.
Pauline- In spite of everyone's good intentions re: doctoring your back, I have to say: take all the drugs you want but avoid alcohol since it weakens the myelin (sp?) sheathing that protects nerves and it would make them more sensitive to pain. Steve's taking good care of you, a sweetie.
Hi Deborah, Just wanted to offer my condolences about Dusty, he looked like a lovely dog. I was reading an article the other day about greyhounds rescued from their possible deaths after failing to win at the dog track...was he one? I really feel for you, I know how terribly hard it is and how empty the house feels when you come home. I lost my cat Cleo in May, age 16...and my dog Merlin in September, age 13. You feel so guilty making the decision, but you know too that it's the only possible choice, and you can't let them suffer. My two are side by side now on the bookcase with a photo. It takes time to get over it, but all of our thoughts are with you.
Pauline...I use Robaxacet extra strength for my bad back! Hope you feel better soon.
Pauline, I'm either having sympathy back spasms for you this morning, or that fall on the ice earlier this week did more damage than I thought. I'm lucky though, so far, advil's taking the edge off.
Not much new going on here. Chris is flying in from Milwaulke (I think) this evening. He was also in Columbus and Phoenix this week but I don't think he travelled anywhere yesterday, so that would make it Milwaulkee. Tonight, we're having dinner out w/ my bil and sil plus Chris's cousin and her husband, who we haven't met yet.
Stumped again - I tried doing a search for bil and sil in google, and while there are a lot of people talking about it, no one explained what it is.
Got my hair cut today. She tried suggesting several styles and I explained that I just wanted an easy wash-wear cut and I couldn't be bothered with styling my hair every morning, etc, etc. She said, "I know, I know, that is what you (Americans) like."
I doesn't matter how much I read or hear about strikes. I can never seem to apply them to my life. We are supposed to go to dinner at the house of friends who live in Frascati tonight. I've been hearing about the train strike. So imagine my surprise when I went to buy tickets. A friend is going to pick us up at the metro and give us a lift.
I have to drive all the way to L.A. to make an emergency delivery in order to save an account from giving up on my company completely. 300 miles. Friday traffic. Groan.
Then I get to come home and babysit. A three year old and a less than one year old. I'm much better with kids once they get to the stage when they are into punk rock or Marilyn Manson (or whoever - unless they are into Celine Dion, I can usually relate.) This will be interesting. Well, I haven't watched all those kids Christmas shows in thirty years, so I can catch up on what is going on in Baby Christmas Land.

Well Gianna, my 5 year old LOVES the Once More with Feeling sountrack from Buffy. Does that qualify? If so wanna babysit so I can go get the stress relief my doctor recommended yesterday?
Thanks Cristina (i.e., mil, sil, bil) by the way - anytime you want to visit the states, my kids would be more than happy to keep your kids occupied while you go for some stress relief - heck maybe i'll even stick around and help them or better yet, maybe we can get Amy to come down with her shaving cream
Shannon I feel your pain. I wasn't crazy about that age either - now at 7 and 10 they're pretty cool to hang with. Of course in a couple more years, they won't want to hang w/ me at all.
I'm babysitting my 3 month old grandson today. He is in an eat, sleep, poop, cry, eat, sleep, poop, cry mood today. Thank God for baby seats with recorded heartbeats, music, and vibrating seats.
