Hi all,

I am wondering lately which pizzeria in Florence might be considered "the best"

Thought, for the heck of it, I'd throw this question out to those of you who frequent Florence a lot, or who live there.

What about Il Pizzaiuolo versus Santa Lucia versus Vico del Carmine... and there are so many more....

I've read some recent reports that Il Pizzaiuolo changed hands and isn't as good anymore, so I am also interested if anyone has eaten there recently. It used to be so great!

That would be good to know. Anyone who lives in Florence have an update for us on this?

Santa Lucia.

That name was a new one on me, but I know from exerience that the best guide for good cheap eats in a city is a fellow musician, especially one who lives there Smile

So thanks, Luca - and here's a Google map of the location (with links to street views, and more reviews).

Il Ghibellini in S.P. Maggiore has great pizzas, more than 50 kinds, and great calzones also.

I forgot about that place. It's been years since I have eaten there. Everyone think the pizza there is still good? I guess they have a wood burning oven, I can't remember.

The take-away joint in via Cassia 18/A, almost on the corner of Piazza San Jacopino, makes excellent pizzas, better than several sit-down pizzerias. If you manage to get it home hot (you can also order it by phone at 055/355553 and have it rushed to your home in half an hour, you live close enough) it is not bad at all.

(This was tested a couple of weeks ago. The quality of take away and "motorcycle" pizzas is very variable, and changes in time.)

I have a tourist question..

Is anyone familiar with the pizza/pasta take-out on the corner of Piazza Santo Spirito? It's just a hole-in-the-wall just across from the church. It seems to do a lively take-out pizza business, esp. Sunday nights.
