Can anyone help me find maps of Emilia Romagna - especially the Bologna area?

I am looking for scale 1:50000 maps similar to the Ordanance Survey maps we have in the UK.

Many thanks...

Dai.

Hello Dai, and welcome to Slowtrav! Unfortunately, Italy doesn't have anything that quite measures up to our OS maps, in terms of ether availability, coverage, or accuracy...

Probably the best at 1:50,000 are the German-produced Kompass maps, though these only cover the more popular hiking areas, so I don't know whether Bologna is in their series. If you're in the UK at the moment, Stanfords is probably your best bet.

Thanks, Jonathan!

I looked at Omnimap in the US who seem to have some 1:50000 maps of Italy but at huge price for international shipping (total c$50 per map).

I wondered if these were available locally.

Thanks for the tip on Stanfords - I buy nautical charts there so will check the land map section...

Cheers,

Dai.

The maps below from Trek Maps in the US complemented by Google Maps should satisfy all your travel planning needs. No doubt these maps are available in major cities of the world.

I have a cabinet filled with Italy maps, including country-wide, sectional, regional, provincial, city and many other specialty maps of particular areas.
I used google maps, a good screen-snap program and a color printer for planning a forthcoming trip to Italy. Not once did I refer to any of my library of Italy maps. The comprehensiveness of google maps is astonishing!

The maps that I will need when in Italy are printed on 8 ½ X 11 inch good quality ink jet paper and filed in a “travel” binder.

Type of Map: Regional $12.95
Scale: 1:200,000

From the Italy map series from Touring Club Italiano (TCI), Italy's Automobile Association. Each map neatly folds into a cardboard cover and has an index and postal codes for places included in the map as well as a chart to show distances between major cities.

Regional Emilia Romagna map includes the provinces of Bologna, Ferrara, Forli, Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Ravenna, Reggio Emilia, Rimini.

Type of Map: Provincial Scale: 1:150,000 $10.95
Dimensions: 57 cm x 72 cm
Located in the region of Emilia Romagna, the provincial map of Bologna includes the cities of Bologna, Modena, Faenza, Sassuolo, and more.
Provincial maps feature freeways, highways, state roads, provincial roads, mule tracks, pathways, railway stations, airports, campgrounds, landmarks, tourist areas with accommodations, small towns, and political divisions.
