I go this June for one week and will let you know. So far, he has been very helpful by email, checking out a place for us to stay, and asking for the deposit by my local check, which he will not cash (unless I'm a no-show, of course). He sounds fine.

Auntie Tutu, thanks for responding. How far along are you? I'm doing the Prego book and have just started chapter 16, conjunctivo. I can read much better than speak. In fact I can hardly speak at all. I'm hoping the Prof will help me with conversation. Ciao, Leigh
I bought the Auralingua CDs at Costco and I'm on the 2nd (of 3) disk. Me too, I can read much better than I can speak. My tongue just gets all twisted when I try to go at normal speed. Andrea said he would come to our apartment on Monday morning and show us how to get the bus to where the lessons will be.
Did you know there's a website with interactive stuff if you're using "Prego"? Prego
Ciao, Ann

I really should post a trip report, but since I got back from my March trip to Bologna, Genova and points in-between, I've been busy at my real job (sigh) in order to save for a trip in September.
Anyway, I took a week's worth of lessons with Signor Andrea Quarantotto in Bologna, and I thought he was a very good teacher because he adapted his methods to the areas that I wanted to concentrate upon.
I also found he and his wife Daniela to be exceptional hosts. Daniela is an excellent cook and every day I ate a fabulous home-cooked meal for lunch. I opted for the afternoon excursions, as I was traveling alone in Bologna. One day we toured the city center and another day we went to Parma. One night I asked to go to a discount mall, for a modern Italian experience.
I am at an intermediate level, having taken Italian at the University of California for a year using the Prego textbook. Since then I have studied with private teachers in California and Hawaii, and taken classes at Saena Iulia, Dante Alighieri, Babilonia in Italia. My goal with Sig. Quarantotto was to improve and practice my speaking ability, which I feel I did.
Feel free to send me a private message if you want more specifics.
Aloha, Dana

Haviana, I've signed up for 2 weeks, 5 hrs. a day with Prof Quarantotto. I'm not sure if I'm with him all day or not. I think I too would like the excursions in the afternoon, what program was that? Thanks, Leigh
I also studied with him, and found him to be a wonderful teacher and, as mentioned, he and his wife are warm and charming hosts. He can be reached at www.bolognalingua.com. I have talked about my experience with him in more detail in previous posts which you could find with the search function.-gedlin
