We are planning a trip from Provence to Florence by car. I want to allow some stop overs 2-3 days along the way. We have never driven from France into Florence. We have been in and around Genoa. We are looking for some place in between of interest.Any suggestions are welcome

Two of my favorite places come to mind. Menton is on the border and is lovely---fabulous flowers. If you want to go further, then Santa Margherita is always a good option. Beware of drop charges from France to Italy.

You should consider Portovenere, Lerici or Tellaro for stopovers (all about 2 1/2 hours from the French/Italian border). If you want to try something different yet very nice, consider Sarzana.

Another good stop closer to Florence is Lucca...
