Unfortunately I have to postpone my trip to Italy until March. Fortunately for someone, I have a receipt for a ticket for 2 for the English tour of the Scavi for Saturday, November 18 at 3:00 pm. It's a shame that this would go to waste, so I am anxious to send it to someone who would be able to attend. I don't want any reimbursement, just anxious to send to someone who would like to go during that time frame.

If you'd like the tickets, please respond with your e-mail address so I will know where to send it. First one who responds will get it.

Hi Ron,
Sorry you have to postpone your trip, but perhaps another Slow Traveler will be able to use your Scavi tour reservation.

I'll "feature" this post until you let us know that the reservation is no longer available.

Scavi tickets are spoken for. A friend's son and wife will be in Rome during that period and I've given the tickets to them. So I'm pleased the tickets will be put to good use even if not by us.

Ron, your friend may have problems. What you have is actually the reservation, not the tickets. When you report to the Scavi Office 15 minutes before tour time, you must present the reservation and ID. When you make the reservations at the Vatican website it advises that the Scavi Office must have the names of all participants at the time of the reservation request. It also advises that the reservation is not transferrable. Now, it is also true that there are sometimes people who do not show up for their tour and sometimes these spots are given to people with no reservation that happen to be at the Scavi Office hoping for a tour. It's possible that they would let your friend take your reservation but they should be prepared to be disappointed.

Thanks Margaret for the heads up. I'll advise them. I'm hoping that they will have a similar situation when my wife and I went on the scavi tour two years ago. We simply showed them our e-mail reservation and were included in the tour. They did not ask for id.

I had the same experience as potenza ron, we simply showed our reservation and were not asked for i.d. during the month of May 2006.

Maybe our guy last week was just being persnickety in asking for ID. The tour was great and I do hope your friends get to take it.
