My husband has decided that for our next anniversary (#22), we should celebrate by seeing an opera at La Scala. Of course, it's too early now to know what might be performed for the next season. But does anyone know when that information will be available? Our anniversary is January 26, but we're not wedded (pun not intended) to that exact date. Sometime in January or early February would be fine.

Any suggestions? Although we've been to Italy several times, we have never been to Milan, so we would be doing some sightseeing as well. I would guess we would stay a very short period of time -- less than a week -- because we don't want to leave our teenagers at home for very long (even though Nanna would be here to "supervise". The real question there would be, is Nanna supervising the kids, or are the kids supervising Nanna? LOL).

Usually the season beginning in December is announced in June or July. But this year first it will be necessary to understand how many funds will be available in 2007 for opera houses - this may change according to which government comes out from general elections this month - so a delay may be possible.

Mary,
My wife and I just returned from a short trip (4 day weekend) in Milan for our anniversary (#35) and got tickets to La Scala on their website to see Lucia de Lammermoor. There were no orchestra seats left. Not knowing much about the layout of the theater when we bought our tickets they were for seats in the boxes that had very limited views. So be careful when buying your tickets.

There is a seating plan here of La Scala. It's not easy to find through the La Scala Web site; I found it through Google Image.

I was in Box 9. I was told by an opera fan after I bought the tickets that the best views start at box 12.
