A huge thanks for all the advice last go around. Thanks to a great trip last September, we are headed (back) to Italy for our honeymoon in May.
The plan right now is to start in Rome, spend 3-4 nights enjoying our time there. We definitely hit the popular spots last go around and would love to just be able to meander around, get to the Villa Borghesse this time.
In Rome, we're still not sure where to stay. The B&B we stayed in last time--Fellini Bed&Breakfast-- was great in terms of location but we'd like a bit more privacy this time.
Any reccomendations for somewhere $200/night or less near the spanish steps/trevi fountain?
The 2nd part of the trip, we're planning to to return to San Quirico to stay at Palazzo Capitano 4-5 nights. We absolutely loved the accomodations last time. The staff were amazing, location was easy for day trips, and my fiance is a huge photo taker and the proximity to the Capella Vitaleta was great for him to get pictures at sunset.
While there, we hope to take a vineyard tour and were thinking about trying to find a 1 or 2 day cooking course while in SQ. Any reccomendations?
The delimma is where to go for the last leg of the trip. I know some of you die hard slow travelers would say not go make a 3rd leg but we were hoping for somewhere warm and sunny (with perhaps a beach or pool atmosphere). We're not sun worshippers but did think it would be nice to end the trip with somewhere with a real SLOW pace.
My suggestion would be Tellaroor Portovenereon the Ligurian Coast. Portovenere is my favorite place in Italy although it is not completely "sleepy". Tellaro is a bit more quiet yet plenty of good restaurants nearby and Lerici only 5 minutes away by car...
For Rome, why don't you try Daphne Inn located just off Piazza Barberini. Really nice B&B in a great location and reasonaby priced.
If you are looking for warm weather and a more out of the way place how about Marettimo?. Northern Italy will not be reliably warm,Marettimo is a small island reached by ferry off Sicily.Off the radar of 99.99% of tourists. You could fly from Rome to Palermo then get to Trepani for the ferry.we are going for several days next October. RR
It will be very hard to find a more out of the way place than Marettimo, for sure. As beautiful as it may be, it is very remote and there are few if any services and stores. You really have to want to be "away from it all". In addition, May is really before the season in Egadi Islands so whatever there is during the summer, there will be less in May.
By the way, you can fly from Rome to Trapani (Birgi) directly....no need to go to Palermo.
