Kim, I am thinking 700 to 800 dollars for a week is a little expensive. I am thinking of a family that lives there. I did look at tons of places including Chianti Cashmere. Maybe I am not finding a way to search only agritoursim/farm/estates? All suggestions appreciated!
Hi tel, welcome to Slow Travel. Can you give us some further information, such as how how many persons will be in your party or how many bedrooms you will require? That way we can better direct you in your research.

For what it is worth, normally we travel to the Carribean for holidays, and rent a house/villa for two or three weeks. In the Carribean, I plan on spending anywhere from, $1 US to $1.5 US per week for the rental.
I have yet to hit a Tuscany>italy vacation rental on our trip plans that, on that same dollar value, doesn't offer more.
Mind you, we are not pre-booking this trip, we will be wandering, we have booked our first two nights and our last 3 nights.. based on those cost averages, I expect our nightly rental average to come in at about 70-110 euro a night.. Which far excels in cost savings, with what I have paid in the past, in our travels.
Like the pp, I'd have to ask how many are you travelling with, and where are you intending to go?

Here's a link to our reviews sorted by type: SlowTrav Reviews by Type All the ones categorized as "farm" cover the category agritourismo/farm/estate.
Just remember the exchange rate $700 is a bit more than €500. You may be hard-pressed to find a place in Tuscany for less than €500 for a week. We are talking rentals, correct?
Grifoglia has a one bedroom and a studio within your range. They are a SlowTrav favorite. You can also see their classified ad
Il Passo degli Ulivi also has a place within your range. We have three good reviews for them, one from regular member Gloria Casina di Rosa.
Pie di Costa. We have six good reviews (though I don't "recognize" any of the reviewers i.e., not regular message board participants) but they have an apartment barely in your range.
Podere Torre in Greve may be ,IMHO, the best bargain in Tuscany. 450e for an apartment for 2. http://www.greve-in-chianti.com/poderetorre.htm There's no pool, but the views are amazing and the owner is great. She only has one apartment ,so bookings may be tough.
Kim A good idea. I've stayed there three times. So it's about time I added to DanielleDenis's review. She has her review in the "Vacation Rental" area. I actually have stayed there in one of their B&B/agriturismo rooms. So I'll do my review in the "Hotel" section. It's my trip report she refers to that helped convince her to stay there.
I just want to say you guys are great, what a wonderful resource your are! Just to clarify It is just my husband and myself who are traveling and we don't need anything fancy. 1 bedroom kitchenette bathroom a pool would be nice. Also a family living on the grounds who could guide us and maybe share a story and a glass of wine would be ideal! I am still wondering about the pros and cons of going in the fall (late Sept) vs spring (may) price wise, crowd wise, weather wise? P.s. this is the most time I have spent on a computer in my whole life! Thia
The prices are generally comparable. May and September are usually both considered Middleseason.
In terms of weather, this year is all wrong... we already have June temperatures...
So it is hard to say, but in general whereas May is full Spring and everything is bright green and in bloom, September is the end of the Summer so days are somewhat shorter and the fields are still yellow. It is however a very nice month, just like May.
Both months, in normal conditions..., bring some rain, but generally nothing major.
