For the first time ever, women will be rowing the lead craft the prestigious Regata Storica (and I'm fortunate enough to be among them!). Please, if you are here for the festival on Sunday, feel free to shout and wave yourself with abandon.
How fantastic! That'll be quite a memorable experience!
How long will you be rowing? Is it possible we can see all you ladies on a webcam or two?
Hope you have several friends/family to document this in pictures! It'd be great to see a picture from your vantage point (if possible) ... amoung the chaos.
Enjoy the ride and wishing you great weather!

The corteo enters the Canal Grande from the bacino and heads up beyond the Rialto, turning around just below the train station, and heading back to park itself at Ca' Foscari (where the viewing stand for all the VIPs is under construction as we speak).
I think the Sturion webcam and the Palazzo Balbi webcam (larger) have the clearest, best views, probably best as the corteo heads down the Canal toward the viewing stand.
I'll pass along details as I get them. From last year's event, I know it's late afternoon (between 3p -4p). The first race (youth in pupparini with 2 oars) is at 16.50, and all the procession craft will have to be parked and stable before they pass (the races depart from the Giardini, however).
Thanks for the webcam links! I'm happy I'll not need to be up at 4AM to watch! I'll check back for details and hope to enjoy some of the festivities Sunday!
Thanks for alerting us!

This is pretty exciting, I have to say. We brought the Serenissima back from Burano yesterday...it was repaired and restored in only a week by Agostino Amadi, after being found sunk in the Arsenale on June 2.
My, I look...fresh. Can you tell the costumes are man-sized?
Please check here for the photos I managed to grab from our excellent perch across from the "macchina," or reviewing stand (abbi pazienza, they'll take some time to download).
It was truly an extraordinary, indescribable day that was over all too soon...
What a wonderful experience. It was a rather hot day, I think. You seem to have a nice spread of ages in your rowing team. How often did you practice? Does someone act as the "rhythm maker"? Your photos are a joy, so many happy faces and diverse costumes. Some of those boats are works of art. Where will your boat be stored during the year?

The day of the race I kept passing by the computer hitting the refresh button in hopes of seeing your boat pass. I missed it, but this morning (with good internet signal in Roma, finally) was able to view your album and really enjoyed viewing the festivities!
We arrive to Venice this weekend for a week of exploring. I'll think of you in your happy costume as we cruise the Grand Canal.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
