Is anyone familiar with the Piazzale Medaglie d'Oro in the Monte Mario section of Rome? What is the piazza and the surrounding neighborhood like as a place to live? Is it a decent residential area, reasonably safe, quiet, convenient for food shopping, transportation to Rome center, etc.? Any thoughts on this as a long-term location (about a year) would be appreciated. Would this be considered "Prati" or "Monte Mario"?

-Very close to the Metro Cipro / bus terminal. -Very close GS Supermarket. -Short walk to Todi's Discount Market. -Short walk to Blockbuster. -10 minute walk to the Vatican Museum entrance. -10+ minute walk to a 24 hour supermarket. -10+ minute walk to Piazzale Clodio a major bus terminal for the area. -If your apartment is actually on the Piazza and facing the piazza, expect some noise, as it is a very large intersection with multiple roads coming into it.
Thanks Alessandra and Tony. I found an apartment here that seems fairly reasonable, and was wondering why. It is described as being directly on the Piazza, first floor, so its shortcoming might be noise. Other input welcome, and thanks again.

My family has an apartment there..right in the piazzale which is mentioned in architecture books as a classic 1950's design. Very good neighborhood : shops, food places, the Hilton Hotel 5 *****L is around the corner, there is a lovely park and schools if you are bringing kids. Five min.walk to Balduina and the GS supermarket and covered vegetable market. Lots of good bus lines to center...and if your apt is high enough great views over Rome and the dome of St. Peters.
