I would be there at 4:30--lines can form pretty quickly at the ticket counter to pick up boarding passes--especially tour groups of 20 or 30. If it takes 30 min to get from ticket counter to the gate; and the plane boards at 6:00 that leaves hour for any delays, etc. So 4:30 arrival should give you a comfortable cushion and prevent anxiety.
We did leave our hotel at 4am and were at the Terminal C door (only one open at that hour)...but it was a very short walk from there into Terminal B. Then we had to walk to find the Lufthansa check in place. There was a very long line so by the time we got through the line and got our boarding passes a lot of time had passed. They actually only asked you to check in by about 45 minutes before but I wouldn't try waiting that long as you never know how long or short the line will be.
On Terminal 5, I don't know anything and haven't looked at the map of the airport for that one. There is a good map and instructions here on SlowTrav. It helped us a lot in returning our rental car.Since her flight is so much later, she shoudn't have trouble getting in any terminal door by that time but if you fly directly to the US, you have to be there a lot earlier for check in.
That's about all I know since I've only just flown in and out the one time.

I'm now worried about our daughter's later flight out of Terminal 5. Any recommendations on where she could wait and how she would get to Terminal 5...Her flight is at 9:45 am..I guess she needs to be there when it opens at 7 a.m. She is 20 years old and has travelled a lot in her life, but I'd like to have this more figured out.
It would be easiest on her to stay at the hotel and go separately to the airport, arriving at 7. If you're all up to the cost, a taxi or car service direct to Terminal 5 would be good. Otherwise it would be the train, from Ostiense I'd say, then a shuttle bus from Terminal C to 5.
If she goes with you and needs to wait, my recollection from 2004 when I went way early is that there are no seats on the check-in level of Terminal B/C; there are seats on either the mezzanine level above or the arrivals level below, both with snack bars. So she can wait there until the shuttle bus to T5 starts running from the front of C check-in level shortly before 7.
A lot of people here had good experiences with Romashuttle so I filed it for use for my upcoming trip to Italy in October. The website was easy to follow and I made my reservation (including the information about my credit card). After signing off, I received a confirmation email (automatically generated) from Romashuttle saying they would process my request. Immediately I received another email from this address Postmaster@winhostentssl03.hosting.corp.gd saying that my request to Romashuttle had failed.
The upsetting thing was that all of my reservation request was printed in the email from Postmaster including all my credit card information. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
I've email Romashuttle directly for an explanation, but the credit card disclosure is very upsetting.
Any advice?
