I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Cortona in July. Any tips about the weather/dress, etc? Also, how safe is the town for a woman traveling alone?

Thanks so much!

Hi Linda

We were in Cortona in May, and will be again this year, so I can't speak to the weather in July. But you will probably never go anywhere in your life that you will feel safer at all hours than Cortona!

I spent a while in Cortona last Ocotober, including having to wander back to my place on my own in the dark. It's the same as any rural italian town, you keep your eyes open, you use your head. No worries.

Expecially in July when a lot of people is outside till late, enjoying the evenings and the coolness of the air.
Crime reports are BELOW zero in Cortona.
I live here since 1978.

I studied in Cortona in 1985, honeymooned there in 1988 and took my family there in July in 2004. Cortona is completely safe and you will feel very comfortable. The weather will be extremely pleasant as it is on the mountain with good breezes. It will most likely be warm in the day. I am exhibiting artwork there at Palazzo Casali in October! I'll be staying three weeks and am in the beginning phases of planning the journey.

Also, the University of Georgia has a campus there and there will be faculty and students there for you to meet and converse with if you like.

Ciao, Jenny
