We are leaving for Puglia on Thursday and need a place to stay in Trani. Does anyone have any good ideas?
Thanks.

I can't remeber where I stayed in Trani but I will never forget where I ate. I don't know if it is still there.

Corte in Fiore

A restaurant that was in a garden inside a building with citrus trees and song birds. I do not have the address anymore but if it is still there I suggest it as a place to eat.

I think that you will really enjoy Trani...a wonderful "centro storico", a sophisticated modern town, a picturesque harbor, one of the nicest public gardens in Italy, a remarkable duomo and good food.

We stayed at the Royal Hotel in Trani...a serviceable inexpensive four star with a parking garage under the building. It was fine...nothing special.

On my next trip, I would stay at the Hotel Regia, right next to the Duomo--near the harbor and on the far side of the "centro storico". They are a little hard to get a hold of but a client stayed there last fall and liked it very much. They didn't answer e-mails promptly but did respond to a fax. The fax number is the same as the telephone number.

There are also a number of hotels just out of town in the beach area.

Thanks for the information. We've just added a night in Trani to our stay in Puglia and are excited. It is nice to hear that you agree. Hotel Regia sounds very nice, Jim. Have you ever heard of B&B Domus Angela? It is a three star B&B on the Piazza della Republica. Here is the website:http://www.domusangela.it/en/home_en.asp
It is less expensive (60 EU/night) and as we are staying a couple of more high end places earlier in our trip and we will only be able to spend one night in Trani, we were hoping to keep our accomodation expenses down. I don't know anything about the area so your thoughts would be appreciated.

I don't know the B & B but it is located on the main square in the modern town, a few steps from the Royal Hotel. It is maybe a 15 walk to the other end of the harbor, near the Duomo (see the second red "I" on the map). You will be right in the middle of the quite lively "passeggiata" route.

Jim, did you know that the Hotel Regia is on a very noisy spot?
Even though the location is beautiful and the building looks lovely from outside, cars run along three of the four sides of the building.

As for food, Cas I absolutely reccomend Trattoria da Miana. We were there last January and had the best meal of the last 365 days!

>>Hotel Regia in a noisy spot<<

I have visited the hotel and didn't notice too much traffic...it isn't really on a main road---just traffic going down to the port. Through traffic will usually skirt the "centro storico" My client didn't mention any problem with noise when she stayed there last September.

In any case, I wouldn't expect peace and quiet in any Italian town of any size..... Smile

Letizia,
I know in your notes from your trip to Puglia that you did not recommend the place you stayed in Trani, B&B Centro Storico (?). Do you have any other ideas for us? Something simple, clean and convenient in the 60 EU/night range.
We will plan to eat at Trattoria da Miano for sure.
Thanks,
Cas
