I've followed some of the threads...to no avail. I can't really figure out the Italian to know where to go. I know I watched it online last year. Can someone help me, specifically...? I have to step out for about an hour, but I'd love to come back home and see what's going on....thanks for all your help. (I did go to rai.it, but just don't know where to go from there)

The transmission of the Palio di Siena will start on RAI International at 11:55am (Eastern Time). I found this web site but I am not sure if they will transmit the Palio directly Palio di Siena web. I would suggest to keep logged-in RAI.it (video) and wait until it's time. Will keep an eye on it too.

I think this is a LIVE transmission (same link I've provided in my previous post): THE PALIO!!! Vegetarians!! I think you should click on La carriera.

Cristina, maybe it hasn't started yet? Remember last year? I thought the transmission by RAI International was a delayed one, but I think you or Diva said that it was real time. Let's see... que emocion! Big Grin

got it! Watching now, click La Carria as stated above. I had to upgrade to the latest RealPlayer in order for it to run, but that took 1 minute.

They are coming out now!

The transmission by RAI started on time but they are taking us on a tour first, showing the museums and everything else in Siena and telling us the history of the Palio. No horses yet, only in the beginning Doh

The Palio starts at 7:30pm Italian time.
"Alle 19.30 lo scoppio del mortaretto segnerĆ  l'uscita dei ā€œdieci assassiniā€ dal Cortile del PodestĆ . ƈ Palio." (from http://www.comune.siena.it/news.asp?id=9682)
At the moment I'm watching the programming before the race on Rai Int'l which is the same program being aired on Raiuno.

this is too cool. The weather looks beautiful in Siena! They just took someone away on a stretcher--must have fainted.

this is better than watching a webcam!

Looks like it was neck and neck for the red and white guy and the green and yellow guy, but they bumped into each other and both fell off and the horses continued riderless. The red and white horse won.

Is red and white GIRAFFA?
Green and yello BRUCO?

Sorry, posted without realizing others had been posting. The video was too slow during the real race, but they just replayed it and I could watch it then.

Well that was interesting. By the way I dislike the giraffa immensly so I am a little biased. After the two jockies fell off, the giraffa kept going but the riderless horse of the oca pushed the bruco out of the way (the oca was 1 lap behind) So the real loser of the race is the Pantera as they came in second., This is the same horse and jockey that won for us last year so I am sad for them. I am also sad because the acquila, the rival contrada of the pantera is celebrating right now. Oh well. There is always August 16th!

Cristina,
Sorry for your contrada. Frown

It was fascinating to watch the pageantry and the race, but I'd like to know more about the Palio... so looked up your Palio notes, and am going to read them again before August 16!

For the August Palio instead (the one you list is for July) you can keep an eye on This Site On the 11th there is the extraction of the 4 remaining contrade to race so right now it is only showing the 6 who are running "d'obbligo". Normally there are 7 but the Istrice was banned until next year.

Thanks Cristina for pointing me to that direction. I wanted to subscribe to have access to all the features in that great site but, unfortunately, they are not accepting any more contributions. Change of administration at the end of the year, I think. Hope they won't close it. Has lots of interesting information.

Cristina...on the link that you mentioned, if you go to "Clicca qui per la "manche d'agosto" (click on it) and then click on "LE 4 CONTRADE MANCANTI SARANNO ESTRATTE DOMENICA 12 Luglio ALLE 19.00 (IN DIRETTA NELLA CIATTE ED IN VIDEO-FOTO)" that will take you to http://www.ilpaliodisiena.com/italia/siena/chat.htm
Knowing virtually no Italian, does that mean that the selection process can be viewed through that page....i.e., perhaps also il Palio in August?? That last link has some great photos of the whole process leading up to and including yesterday's race...click on ARCHIVIO FOTO IN DIRETTA down at the bottom of the page. I don't quite get the video in diretta portion---I don't want to download a new viewer and it sounds like that may be what you have to do...am I right? Correct me if I'm not!
Unfortunately, I work at my daughter's school which starts....August 16th (that's the unfortunate part!), so it may be impossible to watch that day anyway...but this whole process of learning is an adventure in itself... Wink Grin Sharon

Sharon, for what I understand, to access the chat and watch all the "diretta" things you have to be a member and if you want to be a member paying the 10 Euro or more, you cannot do it now. They stopped taking contributions/memberships in June. Doh

The link I posted yesterday, with the videos, was for a web site with the same name but dotnet (which is not working today) and the one we are talking about now is dotcom.
