I've heard that the biggest and best-known antiques market in Italy is in Arezzo. Here is a link to its web site. I've been to Arezzo, but never to the market, so can't vouch for it firsthand. - Roz

Every little town has its open air antique market. More often that not is a flea market, but at times you can find really beautiful things. Arezzo has one of the most famous, but Vimodrone, and Roma have many and big also. Campagnano near Roma, and Vallelunga also are big ones.

There are "flea markets" everywhere, mercato dei pulci, but not like the vide grenier I saw in france which are more like American flea markets, with people selling from the back of their cars! Real great junk sales, with treasures. Italians go to France and then come back and sell them here as antiques! The last Sunday of the month in Florence has Piazza dei Ciompi flea market, and the weekend before is at the Fortezza. Italy now has consignment shops which is where People can sell their things and often I find great ceramics and glass objects, but they are not easy to find.
