The Tiepolo apartment is on the Grand Canal and the Passi family is wonderful to work with. We just stayed in one of the garden apartments and absolutely loved both the apartment and area. See my review for the Querini Apartment, (we needed an apartment for three.) http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/vr/review.asp?n=4100

Thanks for the suggestions so far... I'm going in april for a conference and planning on getting a large place with 2 other colleagues. Looking for a 3BR/2 bath apartment which I thought would be impossible, though thithis from luxrest s looks passable. Any other ideas for large places? keep em coming!
For a 3 bedroom apartment - we stayed here for 3 months. It is a wonderful location and a great apartment. Here's my review
I have always found that there is a significant discount for stays of more than 2 weeks for any apartment. So even if the weekly price seems above your budget, it's worth asking for the monthly price.

Sharon, I actually stayed in the Tiepolo apartment last summer. Although, I loved it, I feel it would be a little small for a whole month with my husband. I think we need a separate bedroom, not just a studio.
Is the Querini apt the one also called Valier, on the Passi site? It has no canal view, right???

That is correct, no canal view, but we sure enjoyed that garden.
I know there is another apartment in there with a grand canal view because I saw the door open and a family with two children, (fairly older children) staying there. Perhaps, you could write and ask? Also, I never saw Querini on the Passi sight and actually rented it through another rental agency. I did talk to the Passi family about it and she gave me her email address to contact her in person next time. Would you like that information?
Querini is not the Valier apartment and she said the one we stayed in had only been added recently, so it's worth asking her about another as well, I think.

I haven't stayed in any of them (yet) but this agency has some great looking apartments and some of them are very reasonable. Gabriele has been very quick to answer questions. You might have a look and then write to him to see if there are special deals for a month's stay.
I've stayed here several times and love it. It is not on a canal but has a nice small balcony overlooking a large private garden. I have also seen the Ai Pugni apartment listed on the website and it is lovely also. Anna is the owner and great to work with.

jan, Last night I had dinner with slow travelers Sue and David, who stayed in this apartment in Venice about 3 years ago. I mentioned your search, and Sue said she really liked the apartment, it was in a great location, well designed, and she highly recommends it.
If you recall, there was some discussion on the forum a few years back between a dissatisfied guest and the owner, but Sue said they had no problems at all.

Jan, I'm jealous! Here Ca' Cerchieri3 is an apartment I reviewed after we stayed there the first time. We returned a year later and still loved it. May be just what you are looking for.

Jan, that place looks great - it is about two doors down from where I used to live. I can tell you that you will love that neighborhood. I certainly did.
The only thing that is sketchy, to me, is that it looks to be right above the main calle there and that might get a bit noisy. It's a fairly major thoroughfare.
I think you have enough time to ponder a bit - but if there is something calling out to you, go for it.
My friends rented that apartment, Jan! They said it was wonderful and the terrace was amazing. Their review is here. In terms of noise, they were there at the end of November/December so noise was not really an issue.
My friend asked me to reply here to you as he does not check the site very often. He did not seem to recall any issue with the noise, but also said to say that it was winter time. There are some cafes just across the street but he did not see tons of people spilling out of them (even at that time of year) like in other areas of the city, such as the Rialto. He loved that apartment and hopes to return at a time when he can really enjoy the terrace in better weather! This thread reminds me that I should bookmark the apartment for myself. It's in one of my favorite areas of the city. Good luck with finding something. Just a thought, have you considered writing the owners and inquiring about the noise? JS
I'm late to this party but I am certainly doing the happy dance for you too - a whole month in Venice sounds so wonderful.
We can book on July9th for our trip next June, and while it won't be a month, we will be returning to Italy. Of course on July 9th we will be away for wedding week so this could be interesting.
Guess we won't be crossing paths after all - hope you find that apartment soon.
We have decided on the Giovanni and Paolo apartment. The price is great, I think--2,400 Euros for the full month. We get an extra day since May has 31.
Planning to still go to Bologna for 3 or 4 nights and maybe an over night to somewhere in the Dolomiti.
I finally got around to booking our return flights on Delta and it was a bit of a nightmare. I literally spent hours on the phone with them on 2 separate calls. So, we had to bump up to 150,000 miles for my ticket and 175,000 for Ken's. In order to do it, I had to transfer miles from our kids' accounts and it will take a few days to be posted and then we can get Ken ticketed. Also, we are ending up spending 4 nights in Amsterdam (should be great fun!) and having to fly there from Linate. They could find nothing out of Venice to AMS for us!!! So we will have one crazy travel day--training to Milan and then taking a cab to Linate, I imagine, in order to fly to Amsterdam. I was a little bummed yesterday about the arrangements but today I'm keeping my eye on the prize: A month in Venice.
Jan, despite the getting back to Amsterdam complication, I'm sure you'll have a good time. That's just a minor chink - hey, you've got to have at least a few of those, right? Congrats!
So, more drama with Delta. I looked at our tickets and itineraries this morning. I was already ticketed with the flight from Linate to AMS totally missing. Ken's itinerary was available online but was only the return--no outbound flight at all. I was really upset
After another l e n g t h y phone session, including speaking to "the supervisor" They finally booked us both on a return from MXP to Atlanta to Tallahassee--really much better and for 150K miles.
So, now we get the pleasure of figuring out our 4 extra nights somewhere in Italy. Yes!
I am going to put this trip on the back burner for a while.
