We are traveling with another couple next May/June. I always give them the information regarding hotels so they can decide on type of room and price. Also, they can't understand why I make reservations so far in advance and hate committing so far out. I made our reservations at the Albergo Milano and advised them that they must make their reservations immediately. A month later, they wrote for a reservation and the hotel is fully booked. Can anyone tell me how close the Hotel Du Lac is from the Milano? They are first on the waiting list for the Milano, but I'm thinking they should go ahead and make a reservation at the Du Lac just in case. If the hotels are close to one another, perhaps, everything will be okay.

Are you referring to Varenna? I know that there's a Hotel Milano there, and there are Hotels Du Lac in Varenna, Bellagio, and Menaggio. If both hotels are in Varenna, I can't speak specifically but it's a small enough town that everything should be pretty close, especially if they're both at lake level. The problem getting around is that some streets are long staircases.

Andrew, I'm sorry, it is Varenna.
Sounds like we might be okay if they go ahead and book at the Du Lac, just to play it safe.

My vote is for "Albergo Milano"... read the reviews here on S.T. and take my word for it: if i was to describe it in one word i'd sya: unforgettable!
see the pic below: Albergo Milano is the 2nd lakeshore building from the left... UNBEATABLE location! and i haven't told you anything about their cuisine and "cantina"!!!

Well, fortunately, my husband and I have our lake front room confirmed at the Milano and we are not moving. Since our friends waited too long, we will find another place for them. We just hope their hotel won't be too far from the Milano. Thanks for the picture. I can't wait to stay there for four glorious days.
