Has anyone been to/know anything about the rice festival at Isola del Scala? I learned of it yesterday, it has been held annually for 41 years. Isola del Scala is 20km south of Modena. According to the web site www.fieradelriso.it they serve various risottos all day, can't be a bad thing, no? Anyway, I hope to get there next week. Jim
Isola del Scala is the center of rice production in the area between Verona and Mantova. Even if you can't get to the "fiera", you might consider a visit to the Antica Risiera Ferron.
We had a memorable meal (all courses rice based or rice related) at the old rice mill located in the midst of the rice paddies outside Isola della Scala.
I have not been to the festival, but as Jim put my link up, I do love Gabriele Ferron. His whole family works with Rice and Gabrielle has helped unite the local rice growers and promote the rice from the area, especially the Vialone Nano, if you get the chance to have Gabrielle's rice "olives" they are great.
