We arrived in Firenze yesterday. After schlepping our luggage all over the place and finding it less than fun, we have decided to hire a car and driver for the trip from Naples train station to Sorrento. What the trip will cost will probably be less than my chiropractor visits!

I searched for this subject and found one recommendation for Salvatore Lucibello. Has anyone used him and do you have any info?

Any other suggestions will also be appreciated.

ciao for now,
Earline

We just booked at http://www.cuomonet.it/ for a transfer from Sorrento to the Naples airport for 80 euro for 2 of us in June. Have no idea how it will work out. Another company I've seen people mention is benvenutolimos; they quoted us 100 euro for the same trip. I inquired also from www.goldentours.it, which quoted us a price of 80 euro, but there would be a 10 euro "supplement" since we are leaving very early in the morning. Goldentours is apparently more of a travel agency, in that they make arrangements and subcontract with drivers, as oposed to having their own drivers (at least according to a response I got when I did a posting on the Trip Advisor forum). We will be traveling from Rome to Sorrento via train, but hopefully we'll be OK schlepping our bags from the Naples main arrival area down to the "Circumvesuviana" local line which goes to Sorrento. Then, of course, we'll have to schlepp at the Sorrento end, since our hotel is over in the Marina Grande area. HMMM--Now that I start thinking about it, a car and driver from the Naples train station to the hotel in Sorrento is beginning to sound attractive! We'll get to ride the local train anyway later on, as we're planning a day trip to Pompeii, and possibly back up to the archaological museum in Naples.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaa--aaaaaaaack!

I have been out of touch, don't know what's going on, don't know if I really care. But enough of that 'tude, huh?

We had a great time and I'm trying to get all my notes together for a cohesive report. Right now it sounds like I was into the Limoncello for breakfast.

Report on our transfer from Napoli to Sorrento using Francesco Marrapese's Transfer Service: Absolutely Fabulous, dahlings!

E80 for the basic trip to Sorrento, but since he was free that afternoon and -- what were we going to do but unpack and poke around Sorrento -- he proposed a tour through Ravello, stopping for lunch and some sightseeing, through Amalfi with some stops, through Positano and on to Sorrento at E35 per hour. We opted for that and had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

Francesco is so polite, so helpful, so informative, so amusing, so good-looking! Well, maybe I should have stopped at the amusing part. But what the heck. We need to have good looking people and things to admire, don't we?

His new Mercedes van was very comfortable and roomy. On the trip from Sorrento to Napoli train station, we doubled up with a couple from New Orleans who was going on to Firenze, so he knocked E20 off the price for us.

He gave us lots of information about the things we were seeing, about history, about tours and guides. He has a wonderful, low key sense of humor.

I highly recommend Francesco and his services. I wanted to post a picture we took with him, but I can't find it. My daughter, Kristina, and I both took pictures and she did a wonderful job of downloading and combining our files, but I just can't find it.

Ciao for now!
Earline

Welcome home Earline! I can't wait to read your trip report!( I am sure it will be hilarious!) I cannot believe we are leaving in less than three weeks! Reading your report on Francesco makes me rethink taking the train and Bus to Positano. Could you post his number or webpage again?

Darn, Linda! I had this snappy reply to your question about the website and Eloise beat me to the punch. Her response was much gentler than mine was going to be!

If you're planning on taking the bus to Positano, let's hope that I get that portion of my trip report posted before you go. It will be entitled something like "In the Jaws of Death with the Bus Driver From Hell". Look for it on your friendly ST site in a few days!

E Eek

With "all" being the key word here, I'm not sure you really, really want to go THAT far! Happy

ok, maybe not "All"! Eek Seriously, I do want to hear all about your trip and all the favorite places you ate! So get writing!
I tried you friend Francesco but he was already booked! I emailed other drivers from the classifieds and so far the quote is 130.00E from Naples! Didn't you pay 80.00? I guess ours is more because we need to go to Positano.Ok, is it really worth the 130.00E???

I just looked up our cost from last May (05) and our driver charged 85E each way. We came from the Naples train station to Praiano.

(Praiano is the budget town right NEXT to Positano)

His name is Rino at Italy Limosine. I have his cell phones but don't have the website right now. Actually *he* didn't pick us up OR take us back. (Although he did a couple of years ago in Naples for a day cruise from a ship) He arranged for others to pick us up - and they were on time and got us back to the train early. It bothered me because I thought it would be Rino again, but really no big deal....)

Ok, I looked up the website - and it's:
www.italylimousine.it

You can do a search on Google and read his Guest Book and other opinions.

Thanks for the good words on Francesco. He is picking us up on Saturday at the Naples airport, giving us a Amalfi coast drive for the day before taking us to our hotel. Then om Monday he is driving us to Rome.

Glad it seems I made a good choice!

Renato Cuomo is definitely someone to consider. His rates are usually the best, and he is an absolute professional!

You can also try Giovanni Gargiulo at www.tourofitaly.com. We booked him for our trip to the Amalfi Coast next week (we can't wait). Anyway, I believe Tour of Italy charges E85 for transfers.

Good luck!
