Or look for any CARITAS organizations, I actually believe that ANY church will know what to do or give you directions. I just emptied the armoires from too small clothes of the kids, equally divideb between red cross donation and caritas. They accept shoes too

If you are ending your trip in Rome the Baptist Church (Chiese evangelista) at 27 Teatro de valle helps many immigrant families and other poor. As mentioned the Sant Egidio people do fantastic work also. They are at Santa Maria in Trastevere every evening feeding the poor.
