Will be returning to Florence in late-September with cousin and her husband. Due to surgery on ankle, he can only wear cowboy boots (his orthopedic surgeon must have been a Texan). During our stay, he would like to order a pair of custom-made boots. Not being a boot wearer, nor possessing any knowledge about boot-making in Firenze, I had to plead ignorance when he asked if this were possible, and if I knew where/how to find custom-boot makers. Not to worry, I told him,I'll simply post a request on slowtrav.com. This will turn up the names of more custom-boot makers than can possibly be seen over our five-day stay. Thanks for any and all recommendations.

Hi Sam-

Here are 2 that I am aware of, both located in the Oltrarno: Roberto Ugolini and Stefano Bremer.

There are several custom shoe makers. I have never seen boots in their window displays.

[LIST]Shoe makers
  • There is one on via Dei Camaldoli near Piazza Tasso.
  • Piazza Santo Spirito near the church
  • Borgo San Frediano between Piazza Del Carmine and the Porta San frediano on the south side of the street.
  • Via Dei Barbadori near the Ponte Vecchio
  • Via Del Parione near Piazza Santa Trinità
  • AND this very nutty one that might be your best bet on Via Nazionale between Via Guelfa and Via Faenza near a parking garage called...oops I can't remember his name, but I would go here first the others might look at you down their noses.

My father wanted to have some custom made shoes and went to the shop in Piazza Santo Spirito. They said that the shoes started at Euro600. So we didn't look anymore but the guy on Via Nazionale would be a good place to start - surely Diva knows the name of the shop.

Albion is the wild poet artist boot maker on via Nazionale 123/r just up from the Oviesse store.
I will be near there tomorrow and can ask about timing and prices.
But cowboy boots , texas style are probably best to get where there are cowboys!

Albion does make boots though. not cowboy boots.
Also in Panzano in Chianti is Carlo fagiani.. makes some nice stuff!

Sam, are you still in LA? have you checked to see if there should are any cowboy boot shops around? It's so close to TX... btw, cowboy boots, especially new ones fyi, can be difficult to slip into and out of, so I'm wondering why an Orthopedic surgeon would recommend them to someone just recovering from ankle surgery... i suppose if you found some VERY used boots, ones broken into for years!, getting in and out of them wont be too painful... leather stretches with use and I can see why your interest in Florence custom-made cowboy boots (if they do make them), they have the SOFTEST leather, like baby skin! Good luck with your search there!

Sally, you'll have a much better chance of getting an answer to your question if you start a new topic with a title that indicates your question.
