I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for an apartment
rental on Lake Como. I'm looking for something $1000 or less for one week.
I've found a few possibilities, but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.
I've checked the reviews but there's not too many for this area.
Thanks!!!

Welcome to Slow Travel, Bettyloo!

We were also looking recently for an apartmental rental, possibly for next year, but we were looking specifically for the city of Como. Not an easy task.

Do you have any preference as to the location? There are many villages and towns around the lake that one could choose as a basis, and more specific indications may help in narrowing the choices.

Thanks for the welcome!

I really don't have a specific location in mind. We'll have a car so a smaller town would be ok. The only thing we know we want to do for sure away from the lake is a day trip to Bellinzona. I've been getting some seemingly good responses as far as price, it's just hard to know if the pictures, etc. are reliable so I was wondering if anyone had any experiences they wanted to share.

I'll let you know what we end up with!

We rented this apartment last year from Giovanni. The pictures are pretty representative of the apartment. The apartment is well kept and very clean. Giovanni was great to work with and he speaks perfect Canadian english. Big Grin

It is on the fourth floor with no elevator, so you have three flights of stairs. It didn't bother us.

The view from the apartment is beautiful - Lake Como and the surrounding mountains. We were there the last week of May 2007 and the weather was rainy, even stormy. The view was even made more beautiful with the addition of cloud formations. It even snowed in the mountains one night. I spent a lot of time sitting on the balcony just relaxing and taking lots of pictures of the ever changing view.

Also see my review here.

I know that Albergo Milano has a couple of apartments you can rent....http://www.varenna.net/. We have not stayed in them, but do stay at the hotel each year and love it.

We rented this small apartment in Mennagio: Casa al Ponte. We only rented for 2 nights, to help with recovering from a red eye transatlantic flight, before heading further south in Italy. The owner has other apartments, and was easy to deal with. The apartment we rented was very clean, very reasonably priced, and an easy five minute walk down a somewhat steep, but well maintained, walkway. We had a rental car but you could easily get around using public transportation, especially the great ferry service on the lake. The apartment was by no means fancy, basic would be a good description, but I would recommend it none-the-less.
