Hello, As my earlier request brought no responses at all I am trying a different way to ask the question.
We are meeting up with Kaydee in June whilst we are in Casperia and they are in Tuscany so we have decided to meet up around Lake Bolsena. Can anyone suggest a good place to find each other??!
Perhaps the little town of Bolsena itself but what is a good landmark? The Cathedral maybe but if I remember rightly that is in the lower town?!

I need to have this organised before Kathy leaves Provence for Italy as she won't have such easy access to the web. Your help would be appreciated.

Mary Jane, Cheryl where are you?!!

Hi Wendy,
So sorry I haven't been around........too much work this last couple of weeks. What made you decide to hook up in Bolsena? It will be fairly full of German tourists that time of the year, but if you hike to the very top of the old town, the view will win your heart forever.

The main piazza, in the lower town, is quite small and when it's busy parking may be difficult. But it's an easy place to meet someone. I suggest you find the one bancomat (ATM) in the corner of the piazza and use that as your meeting point. Be sure you guys wind your way up the cobbled path to the top of the old city, where the "castle/museum" is located. The little village up top is very charming and foot traffic only, which is cool.

There are quite a few chapels in this area, so it may not be a good point of reference for a meeting spot. Have a great time, ciao, Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

Thank you so much for your input. If you can think of anywhere better in Northern Lazio I'd be very pleased to hear about it.

We chose Lake Bolsena because we liked it when we were there in 2003 and we are looking for somewhere to meet up that Kaydee and family and Ricardo and I can enjoy that isn't in Tuscany or Umbria( because of other trip plans)

We are really looking for a good lunch spot ristorante/pizzeria for our mimi gtg in early June.

I hadnt answered because of work committments (I have another conference in Italian tonight) and because you didnt give me the date you're coming. If its not June 2-7 when I'm taking a group to visit historic homes and gardens of the National Trust in Dorset I'd say you should meet up in Vetralla so it can become a real GTG at my favorite restaurant here L'Oliveto. (or on my terrace) .Otherwise good restaurants on the lakeside would be La VEla or Park Hotel at Capodimonte right on the great beach the only one I know with shade trees. In Marta instead there are a line of fish restaurants lakeside. All good from the more expensive Gino to Otello . Strangely enough I've never eaten lunch in a restaurant in the town of Bolsena..its a bit too touristy.

Hello Mary Jane,
Thank you so much for your help it is invaluable.

Sounds like I should be going to Dorset with you. It remains one of my favourite counties.

We will be in Lazio in early June so when we have set a date I'll let you know if there isn't a clash, but your kind offer of hospitality is much appreciated as well as the tip about L'Oliveto.
I didn't feel Bolsena was toursisty when we visited in Oct 2003 but that is why "insider" information is so useful.

Please let me know if any of your books are available over here by the way I am much intrigued by Northern Lazio.

My book "Travels to Tuscany & N. Lazio" based on the 18th century travel diaries of Cardinal Stuart/Duke of York is for sale at the bookshop in the British Library. Also my US agent is selling them...but if you are coming here you can pick up a signed copy (with a discount )over lunch. Prince Charles has sent me a nice note thanking for his copy and we are expecting the English ambassador for the May 8th ceremony "Wedding of the Trees" that the Zurer family attended a few years back. People here are finally realizing the important English connections this area has..for that reason I have had a busy month of illustrated talks, conferences. The Royal Stuart Society has included news about it in their Newsletter and I hope Pauline will say a few words about it or maybe send the book to you for a review.
