I think we have decided to buy all our train tickets at FCO once we get there as I am having no luck at all with the website. Can anyone tell us where the airport train staion is after we deplane and will it take us a long time to purchase them? I have a person meeting us at the airport to take us to our hotel, amd if it is a big project I will tell him to wait a while before picking us up. Thanks for all your help!
It sounds to me like you are going to a hotel in Rome after arriving. Instead of hauling suitcases, etc through the airport why don't you just wait until you get to your hotel and then either a) find a travel agent or b) pick them up at termini when it is convenient to do so. Even if you arrive in the dead of the night you can stop into termini and use the kiosks or the windows are open.
If you are going to be traveling by train throughout Italy just arrive about 45 minutes before your first trip at the train station and you can buy your tickets very easily.
How long are you staying in Rome? If you are spending there a couple of night, I suggest you wait until the next day and, on that day, just pop into any travel agency that carries the Trenitalia logo on the window.
I have never seen a line at the Trenitalia office at FCO. It is located on the left as you come up the escalator and into the train station from the airplane arrivals area. There are signs in the arrivals area saying "Ai Treni" (to the trains)
At least as of last summer, the office to the left towards the tracks (orange-framed ticket windows) isn't a Trenitalia office but a travel agency. Still, they can make reservations for you at no extra charge; they can't issue tickets that you booked online and chose to pick up with the self-service option. The Trenitalia office and self-service kiosks are to the right. The kiosks work pretty easily if you'd like to get the tickets that way.
There were signs at FCO telling you which way to go to the train station. I think it was on the upper level. You can buy your tickets at those machines that sell them. They take credit cards and have 4 language settings. Unless you are taking some overnight train that sells out, you can easily of to the train station and buy the tickets you need or unless it is one of those small ones. I am only familiar with Termini and Naples Centrale.
